Ben Rathje

Throughout his degree, Ben has developed a passion for both anatomy and biomechanics. He aims to share this passion with others as he works with our team over the coming months to develop individualized, safe and effective rehabilitation programs for clients at the clinic. Ben has gained prior clinical experience through volunteer work with both Cerebral Palsy Alberta and multiple physiotherapy agencies, including our own. He hopes to use this experience as a basis upon which he can expand his knowledge and grow as a professional. Outside of the clinic, Ben likes to remain active through resistance training, skiing, skateboarding, and water sports. He also enjoys reading, movies and playing board games with his family and friends.

Carson Lai

With over 17 years of physiotherapy experience, Carson has a strong interest in occupational rehabilitation, pediatrics and post-op orthopedic rehab. Carson offers functional rehabilitation and progressive goal setting as part of his approach towards your rehab journey. Along with functional dry needling and acupuncture, he is dedicated to help empower his patients towards independence.

Cindy Fung

Cindy graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Physical Therapy of Rehab Medicine, and is also certified as an acupuncture practitioner in Canada. She has 20+ years of experience treating patients with physiotherapy, acupuncture and dry needling. Her special interest and areas of expertise are chronic pain management, fall prevention and strength training. The human body's mechanics and muscles always fascinate her. Cindy strongly believes in "use it or lose it". She loves reading, cooking, hiking and traveling. Continuous learning is her life-long goal.

Debbie Yuen

Debbie graduated and practised as a registered Physiotherapist in Hong Kong, China before she came to Canada in 1990 and has been practising as a registered Physiotherapist in Alberta, Canada since then. She completed the Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from University of Alberta in 1994. She has been authorized to do needling on clients by the College of Physical Therapist of Alberta since 1995. She was also a registered Massage Therapist with the City of Edmonton from 1996 to 2019 and the clinic owner of Advance Physiotherapy & Rehab Center in Edmonton, Alberta for 14 years till 2014. With the continuation of her lifelong path of learning, she has worked in various acute, subacute, rehabilitation and long term care hospital, outpatient and private practice settings. She is currently employed part time at Advanced Health and Hand Clinic and part time at a long term care facility treating young adults. Beside English, Debbie treats clients who speak Cantonese and Mandarin. She is interested in treating a wide variety of conditions and different age groups such as musculoskeletal injuries ( sports, MVA and WCB), pre and post - natal and surgical rehabilitation, chronic pain condition, vertigo and even babies with torticollis. Debbie takes a full body approach and customizes her client's treatment with traditional physiotherapy treatment, acupuncture, auricular therapy, acupressure, dry needling, self pain and health management. Outside of work, she is a wife and mother of two lovely adult children. Debbie enjoys travelling and spending time with her family and friends.

Jennifer Sawatzky

Jennifer graduated from the University of Alberta with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy as part of the class of 2021. Prior to that, she received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2009, also from the University of Alberta. In between degrees, she worked as a Therapy Assistant in acute care for over six years. Jennifer enjoys working with a wide variety of client populations, and has worked with patients in various settings including private practice, acute care and home care. She has a strong interest in hand therapy, and hopes to become a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) in the future. In addition to the clinic, Jennifer also works in acute care, working with orthopedic surgery patients. Jennifer believes in incorporating education, manual therapy and therapeutic exercise into treatments, and aims to make the patient an active participant in the treatment plan. She believes that no two patients are exactly alike and that an individualized approach to treatment is the best way to help patients achieve their rehab goals. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys being active, particularly spinning and taking fitness classes including yoga and Tabata. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends and her dog Zeus. A big sports fan, especially the NFL and the NBA, Jennifer also loves going to the movies and reading, and tries to read at least one book per month.

John Phan

John began his academic journey at the University of Alberta in 2010 where he studied science and developed a love for movement sciences and neurology. By the end of 2017, he officially completed his Masters of Science in Physical Therapy program. A recent graduate, John has gained a variety of experience working with children, seniors, athletes, stroke and spinal cord injury patient. Since he was young, John has participated in competitive sport teams like soccer, volleyball, badminton and hockey. Although he never continued into the collegiate level, he continues to enjoy and appreciate the sport and athletes. He understands the importance of appropriate rehabilitation and injury prevention for athletes to continue to perform at a high level. Currently he enjoys spending his free time with his friends and family, snowboarding and cheering on the Edmonton Oilers.

Tara Krys

Tara graduated from the University of Alberta with a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy, previous to that she completed a Bachelor of Physical Education (Dean's list) in 2005. Growing up, Tara competed in many sports including artistic gymnastics and track and field. She has since been a competitive gymnastics coach at a local Edmonton club for the past 10 years. Tara has also worked with a figure skating club within the city for the past 5 years doing some of their off-ice training. Tara is passionate about sports performance as well as health and wellness. Her main interest is in treating and preventing sport related injuries however her goal is to help her clients succeed whatever their rehab or wellness goal may be. Tara is also certified in K-taping, acupuncture, and functional dry needling.

Tia Martineau

  • Certified ISSA Personal Fitness Trainer
Tia Martineau is a Certified ISSA Personal Fitness Trainer - 200hr Registered Yoga Instructor and has been transforming her Yoga and Fitness skills since 2013. She studied at Nait for Kinesiology and practiced the art of Somatics that has helped herself heal from a past injury and allowed others work on their own internal physical perception and experience with stretching and training. Her goal is to become Canada's strongest lightweight in Alberta's women's Strongman. She currently resides in Edmonton, Alberta Canada.

Tina Carter

In 2004, Tina graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psycho-pharmacology at the University of Alberta. She then completed her Master of Science in Physiotherapy (MScPT) in 2007. Since graduation Tina has worked as a community therapist in private practice specializing in the upper extremity as well as a sport physiotherapist for local teams and international world championships. Through post-graduate studies, Tina has certified in both spinal manipulation and acupuncture. After a rotation in Plastics, Tina knew she had a special interest in treating hand, wrist, and upper extremity injuries and achieved her designation as a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) in 2013. Outside of clinic, Tina can be found teaching pole fitness, dance, and boot camp. In her free time she loves to golf, play tennis, and enjoys yoga.
