Alicia has been a paralegal with Brothers & Henderson, P.S. since 2013. Having first been introduced to the legal field in 2004, working as a receptionist at a law office, Alicia quickly gained a passion for guardianship and elder law, and just a few years later, she was employed as a legal assistant with a focus on estate planning, guardianship and probate. She continued to work as a legal assistant prior to earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communications - Public Relations from Washington State in 2009, and soon before her employment at Brothers & Henderson, P.S.. Alicia lives in the Seattle area with her husband. When not at work, she enjoys playing softball, going to sporting events, and playing with her dog, Juniper.

Christopher M. Henderson - Shareholder

Chris Henderson brings a strong and diverse background in legal practice and academic work in disability rights, business and technology to his role as partner at Brothers & Henderson, P.S. Mr. Henderson's practice includes preparing planning and end-of-life documents; advising beneficiaries, professional fiduciaries and attorneys regarding settlements and special needs trusts; advising individuals regarding guardianship, state and federal benefits, and special education; and representing clients in related disputes or litigation. Prior to joining B&H, Henderson focused on academic work in disability rights, and professional work in business and technology - in particular, the use of technology to address the needs of those with disabilities. Mr. Henderson worked at a global law firm's Seattle office, serving emerging technology businesses as a corporate associate. During this time, he served as outside general counsel to a variety of privately held businesses, regularly guiding his clients in transactions valued at tens of millions of dollars. Elevating disability rights and disability and elder law has been a clear theme throughout Henderson's career. While in law school, he was selected as symposium editor for the Washington Law Review. In that capacity, he worked closely with late professor and former Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Commissioner Paul Miller to bring together internationally renowned disability law scholars to study the rights of the disabled on a global scale. The symposium culminated in an edition of the Washington Law Review edited by Mr. Henderson, Framing Legal and Human Rights Strategies for Change: A Case Study of Disability Rights in Asia 83 Wash. Law. Rev. 435 (2008). Henderson has been invited to speak on guardianship, Medicaid, elder Law, special education and estate planning issues to many groups, including other attorneys and a variety of advocacy organizations. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Western Washington chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, and is a member of the End-of-Life Washington and Full Life Care advisor groups. In 2014-2015 he served on the state Alzheimer's Disease Working Group as the only active attorney appointed to the group by the Washington Department of Social and Health Services. A four-time winner of the SuperLawyers Rising Star award (2014-2017), Henderson is a member of the King County Bar Association's Guardianship and Elder Law Section where he previously served on the executive committee. He is also a member of the Washington Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Washington State Bar Association and its Real Property, Probate and Trust Section and Elder Law Section, and the National Academy for Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA). Henderson was admitted to practice in the state of Washington in 2009. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his law degree from the University of Washington School of Law, where he later co-taught the disability law course. Cody Ricks focuses his practice on Social Security Disability Law, encompassing Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income benefits. In 2017, he was granted special authority to practice law before the Social Security Administration as an Advocate. Cody obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from the University of Utah in 2014 and an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Paralegal Studies from Ensign College in 2012. With a 12-year track record in Social Security Disability Law, Cody's legal journey began in 2011 when he embarked on a career in private Social Security Disability Law firms in Utah. Subsequently, he ventured into business ownership, establishing his own private practice spanning Utah, Idaho, and Arizona from 2016 to 2023. In September 2023, Cody joined Brothers & Henderson as an Advocate where he continues to champion the rights of individuals navigating the complexities of Social Security Disability. In addition to the commitment of his practice, Cody is currently pursuing credentialing to practice law before the Veteran's Administration Board, with a vision to assist veterans facing service-connected disabilities.

Joshua L. Brothers - Shareholder

Joshua L. Brothers is an experienced advocate and attorney in disability and elder law, estate planning, and probate. He is a long-time leader at Brothers & Henderson, P.S. A partner at the firm for over a decade, his practice focuses on litigation and settlement planning; the development, implementation and administration of special needs trusts and other types of trusts; estate planning; guardianship; benefits advocacy; benefits litigation; and probate. With a strong commitment to the disability and senior communities, Brothers actively serves as a leader and advocate for numerous community organizations. He current serves on the Board of Directors for the Brain Injury Alliance of Washington and on the CLE Committee for the Washington State Association for Justice. He has previously held voluntary positions as the president of the Board of Directors for the Arc of King County as the CLE Co-Chair for the King County Bar Association Guardianship and Elder Law Section and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Arc of Washington State, the Professional Advisory Board for the Autism Society of Washington, and the Tyee Sports Council. Mr. Brothers, named as a Super Lawyer for 2019. He was also named as a Rising Star by Washington Law & Politics for 2009 and 2010. He is a frequent presenter at continuing legal education seminars, parent group meetings and other conferences, and symposiums on issues related to his areas of practice. He was admitted to practice in the State of Washington in 2004, the United States Federal District Court in 2004, and the State of Oregon in 2017. Brothers received his Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego in 2004 and his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Washington in 2000. Patrick J. Carter

Patrick J. Carter's practice covers estate planning, probate, trust administration, guardianship, and taxation law, including tax controversy and tax planning. Patrick is an adept problem-solver and enjoys easing his clients' real-world concerns and offering practical advice. Patrick brings a multifaceted background to his practice, working as a management consultant in wireless telecommunications and a Child Welfare mental health counselor prior to law school. These diverse professional experiences broaden his perspective as an attorney and enrich his ability to serve his clients in an individualized and empathetic manner. Patrick studied taxation law at the University of Washington, earning the Clinical Legal Education Association award for his work in the Low-Income Federal Tax Clinic. In Patrick's free time, he enjoys baking gluten-free treats derived from old family recipes. Patrick also coaches youth sports for his son's teams (soccer and basketball). He is currently learning to play pickleball and is working to get back on the golf course after an 8-year hiatus from the activity.
