Chuck Horvath and his two sons, Brad and Mark, had a 15 year dream - to build a competitive drag car. Three years ago, Horvath started looking for a dragster chassis. He eventually found an unfinished, 1978 Vega fiberglass funny car that had been stored for 21 years in a barn. The transformation from derelict to head-turning funny car took Horvath and his sons almost three years to complete. The car has a fiberglass one-piece body, chromemoly tube chassis and is powered by a 392 cubicinch 1958 Chrysler Hemi, supercharged on alcohol. The car will compete in the NHRA nostalgia funny car class, Great Lakes Funny Car Circuit, Good Guys events and Midwest funny car races... The Horvath Racing team has added a new addition to their arsenal - The Gold Coast Charger. This car was originally owned by Don Nieve from Clearwater, Florida and was on the Nitro National Circuit for 5 years. The Horvath Team will be restoring it to it's original red color (see photo below) and running an alcohol 426..
