CHU SHOGI

Chu Shogi (中将棋) is a board game similar to Shogi (将棋), the modern Japanese Chess. Chu Shogi is played with 46 pieces of 21 different types on a 12x12 board. It has been developed in the 14th century, and at the beginning of the 20th century it was one of the common shogi variants in Japan. In today's Japan, it is hardly known even among Shogi players. Compared with modern Shogi (9x9 board), Chu Shogi has more types of pieces. There is no option to captured pieces to return to the board. Therefore Chu Shogi has an entirely different game rhythm... The German Chu Shogi Association (GCSA) was founded in January 2006. Our goal is to play the game and keep the memory alive. This applies to other large shogi variants as well. We put our main focus on organising tournaments, publishing all games we can get, add comments to teach Chu Shogi and help beginners to increase in strength.
