Cliff Island, ME is located about 8 miles east of Portland, one of the outermost islands in Casco Bay. Our ability to access high speed Internet service has been hampered by the primary communication link to the mainland - a copper undersea cable with limited bandwidth. Initially and primarily used for telephone service, we now plan to increase our accessibility by installing a microwave link between Portland and the island, and to connect fiber-optic cable to virtually every business, organization and residence on the island. In a collaborative effort and extraordinary support from island residents, the Island Institute, Sustainable Cliff Island and several private investors, we plan to have the system running by early 2019.
