Barbara Frederikse - Founder

Biography Barbara Frederikse is the founder of Frederikse Law in Burlington, Ontario. With over 20 years of legal experience, including 14 spent on Bay Street in Toronto, Barbara brings a wealth of knowledge to the practice of law. She applies a common-sense approach to the law, putting her clients' interests first, giving practical and cost-effective solutions in real estate, commercial leasing, corporate commercial transactions, and wills and estates. Barbara graduated from Brock University prior to attending law school at McGill University in Montreal, where she obtained degrees in both common law and civil law. Having started her legal career practicing commercial litigation, Barbara appreciates first-hand the pain and suffering that can come from improperly drafted agreements. She uses that experience to educate and guide her clients so that they can make appropriate decisions in their particular circumstance. Barbara served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for Nelson Youth Centres from 2020-2022, an accredited children's mental health centre, prior to its amalgamation with ROCK (Reach Out Centre for Kids). She now sits on the Board of Directors of ROCK. She is also a member of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, serving as Chair of the Women in Leadership Committee. Other memberships include the Halton County Law Association, the Hamilton Law Association, the Ontario Bar Association and STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners). In addition, she is mom to her 3 energetic boys and even serves as a leader with the 15th Strathcona Scout Troop; she has spent many a weekend camping with the group! She also acted as the trainer for her eldest son's hockey team for a number of years before the covid-19 pandemic. With over 19 years of legal experience, including 14 spent on Toronto's famous Bay Street, Barbara brings a wealth of knowledge to the practice of law in Burlington

Louise Reid

Biography Louise Reid is a legal assistant, with Frederikse Law. Originally hailing from New Brunswick, Louise immediately makes you feel welcome and at ease. She has knowledge and experience from different fields of business, including the hospitality industry, running her own home-based business, working in the school system, and acting as team manager for the Burlington Eagles hockey team. She has two active boys who keep her busy! Louise helps us out in all areas of our practice, including business law, wills and administering estates. Louise Reid is a legal assistant, having recently joined Frederikse Law.

Max Honiball

Biography Max is an Associate Lawyer at Frederikse Law, practicing across all of the Firm's practice areas. Max was born and raised in Buckinghamshire, England and moved to Exeter in the south-west of the country for his undergraduate studies. After a rigorous dual law degree studying both the British LLB in Exeter and the French ‘Maîtrise en Droit Européen I' in Rennes, he continued his legal studies with a Master's degree in International Law, Conflict and Security. Heavily immersed in the extra-curricular side of University life, Max was particularly involved with the University Rifle Club, Army Officer Training Corps, and the University Big Band. After falling in love with Canada in the wake of spending five summers working for Ontario Camping Ministries in Huntsville, Max emigrated to the province in 2020, and completed the National Committee on Accreditation's ‘challenge exams' for foreign-educated law graduates while quarantining from the COVID-19 pandemic! Max loves travel and is an avid musician; two hobbies which are serendipitously supported by his role as a British Army Reserve Musician. Since moving to Canada, Max has obtained a foreign detachment to the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry band, and looks forward to representing both his home and adoptive nations in public performances.

Rick Burgess

Biography Rick Burgess is a pillar of Burlington, having practiced law in downtown Burlington for approximately 15 years, all the while serving the community by acting as a director for numerous organizations in the arts, business, education, and philanthropic organizations. Rick started practicing law with a national law firm on Bay Street before taking a 6-year hiatus from law to become a business owner himself. As the owner and operator of a small business, Rick gained first-hand knowledge of the goals, achievements and satisfaction of owning your own business, as well as the challenges and frustrations that small business owners face. Rick has provided business law solutions to all manner of businesses over the years. He has serviced national and multi-national corporations, helping them acquire new business units and complete complex financing arrangements. However, Rick's core clientele consists of small and medium sized owner-operator businesses. The lawyers and staff of Frederikse Law are thrilled to be able to work with Rick. Rick will be offering his extensive knowledge and experience as counsel to the firm while he gradually transitions into retirement.

Vanessa Pereira

Biography Vanessa Pereira is a paralegal, licensed with the Law Society of Upper Canada, having completed the paralegal program at Sheridan College, after having received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in political science and history from the University of Toronto.
