The history of Cottingham Cricket Club goes back to the 1850's, but it wasn't until 1964 that the club moved from friendly only matches to playing League cricket, in the East Riding Amateur League. Since then the club has steadily expanded, forming a 2nd XI (1978), 3rd XI (1990) and junior teams, ranging from under 11 to under 17's, to become one of the largest clubs in the area... For many years the home ground, for all games, was King George V playing fields, Northgate, Cottingham. But the opportunity arose, in 1996, for the 1st XI to play at the British Rail Sports ground in Hull. The 2nd XI followed this in 1997, the same year the 1st XI was accepted into the Humber Don League. Since then most leagues in the area have merged into the East Yorkshire Cricket Alliance, where all three of the clubs senior sides now play.
