Angela Bonavoglia

Angela Bonavoglia is an author and journalist as well as a communicationsanddevelopment professional who has worked for leading foundations and nonprofit institutions, with a specialization in women's issues and reproductive rights. Angela's articles, investigative reports, op- -eds, personal essays, and profiles have appeared in such outlets as Ms. (longtime contributing editor), the New York Daily News, the Chicago Tribune, The Nation, Salon, Redbook, Newsday, Religion Dispatches, National Catholic Reporter, Women's Media Center, Women and Hollywood, RH Reality Check, and Huffington Post. Angela's first book, The Choices We Made: 25 Women and Men Speak Out About Abortion, became a classic oral history. With a forward by Gloria Steinem, the book spans seven decades and features her interviews with celebrities (e.g., Whoopi Goldberg, Rita Moreno, Jill Clayburgh, Kathy Najimy), writers (e.g., Grace Paley), and activists, clerics and medical providers about their experiences with abortion from the 1920s through the 1980s. Most recently, Angela authored Good Catholic Girls: How Women Are Leading the Fight to Change the Church, described as "an impassioned call for answers to some of the most pressing questions facing the Catholic Church today." As a nonprofit professional, Angela has served as development director at the Ms. Foundation for Women and Planned Parenthood of Nassau County; associate director of development at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan; and most recently, director of communications and development at Independence Care System, an agency that supports people with disabilities to live at home, where she raised funds to create and implement a model program to increase access to women's health services in NYC for women with physical disabilities. Angela has conducted research and written reports for, among others, the Planned Parenthood Federation of American, the Ford Foundation, the New York Community Trust, the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, the Coalition of 100 Black Women, Women and Philanthropy, the International Women's Health Coalition, the International Trachoma Initiative, and the New York City Health Department. She holds an MSW from New York University.

Dan Salyer

Dan Salyer, Financial Accounts Manager, joined Geoffrey Knox & Associates in 1997. As administrative assistant he managed press lists and media release distribution for all clients. After becoming a communications associate, he helped develop and coordinate public education campaigns for, among others, Children's Rights and Catholics for A Free Choice. He handled press and speaker coordination for a number of special events, including the "Unconventional Convention" on the 25th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade for Planned Parenthood of New York City. Dan also has worked on developing and maintaining websites, including most recently, www.rareforms.com. Now as financial accounts manager, Dan coordinates all contracts and billings for the firm. Prior to joining Geoffrey Knox & Associates, Dan worked as an administrative assistant for David Eng Communications, for Thomas Publishing, and in the public affairs department of the national offices of Hadassah. He was a writer/editor on newsletters for Ohio University's Fine Arts as well as Birch Family Services in New York. Dan Salyer also works as office manager for Mediaedge: CIA, a global communications planning and implementation agency. He earned his bachelor degree from Miami University and his masters degree from Ohio University, both in Performance Arts.

Mona Finston

Mona Finston has been a media consultant for over 15 years, working on a wide variety of products and services and securing significant media placements for her clients in the non-profit and corporate arena alike. As a senior associate with Geoffrey Knox & Associates since 2004, Mona has helped create and implement media and public education campaigns for non-profit organizations, including the opening of Independence Care System's new center for adults with physical disabilities, the Legal Media Outreach campaign for Lambda Legal, the Sexual Literacy Campaign for the National Sexuality Resource Center, and the launch of Americans for Fairness in Lending. She has also conducted media outreach for the Modern Language Association, International Trachoma Initiative, and for the child welfare reform efforts of Children's Rights. Mona has secured positive, significant coverage for all these clients, including repeated print coverage in the New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, and major city newspapers; numerous wire service stories on Associated Press, Reuters, and Agence France Presse; major broadcast programs on NPR and local as well as all major networks news shows such as Nightline, Today Show, and CNN Headline News; and internet sites and blog mentions related to the specific issues clients work on. In addition to her work at Geoffrey Knox & Associates, recent clients and projects have included the launch of HYmini, the first "green platform" charging device to harness wind power; Hip Hop & Politics, a college tour featuring a panel of leading authors, artists and activists; the U.S. launch of the British Pret A Manger restaurant chain; and Target's David Blaine event. Mona has also worked with Baldwin Hardware, Waterford Crystal, Marilyn Monroe Wines, Bacardi, eBay, and several publishing houses including Simon and Schuster, Workman and Harlequin. Mona has also handled publicity for special events, including Tamron Lenses Professional women photographer's exhibition and auction to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation; "Cycle Chic," a fashion event to celebrate New York's annual Bike-to-Work Week; the "Even Kids Get the Blues" song writing contest (for young song-writers) in conjunction with an AIWA sponsored music festival in Chicago; and the Grand Marnier Chef Ski Races in several US cities. Bob Ipcar has worked with Geoffrey Knox & Associates for over 10 years, coordinating photography, lighting and sound for all media and public speaking trainings in cities and states across the country. Bob is a freelance Director of Photography with the International Cinematographer's Guild. His work has covered documentaries for the Discovery Channel as well as the BBC/Nova. Bob has worked on such Hollywood mini-series as Streets of Laredo and The Stand. He also shoots TV commercials for products as well as politics.

Roberta Sklar

Roberta Sklar is a media relations specialist and veteran of numerous media campaigns to advance civil rights and social justice. She works on a range of issues including sexual rights, reproductive health, and public education, engaging reporters and placing stories and perspectives in online, broadcast and print media outlets. Sklar is also an accomplished trainer for building media interview and public speaking skills. Sklar is the former communications director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (2003-2008) and the Empire State Pride Agenda. During her tenure, the Task Force re-established itself as a leading national voice for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights. At the Pride Agenda, Sklar conducted media campaigns that assisted in the delivery of a ground breaking statewide nondiscrimination law, a hate crimes law, and the first significant New York state funding for LGBT health and human services. She has worked extensively on campaigns addressing reproductive health and rights, nationally and internationally with the United Nations Population Fund, Family Care International, and The Saving Women's Lives Project among others. Sklar has worked with Geoffrey Knox & Associates for over a decade on a number of successful communications and strategic planning projects. Their collaborative communications work together includes, among others, launching the National Sexuality Resource Center, media and public speaking training at the Ford Foundation and the Empire State Pride Agenda, and media relations for Catholics for Choice, Children's Rights, Sexuality Policy Watch, and the International Association for the Study of Sexuality, Culture and Society. Sklar is currently a communications consultant working to help increase federal resources to the national network of anti-violence projects and to the Partnership for Family Inclusion in health care reform. Since 2004, she has been working to advance the goal of achieving marriage equality in the United States as a consultant with LGBT groups, including Freedom to Marry.

Rory Sturdy holds a Master of Film Production (with distinction), awarded by the University of West London, and a Master of International Humanitarian Action (with distinction) awarded jointly by Uppsala Universitet, Sweden and Ruhr-Universitat, Germany. He received a Bachelor Degree in Business Studies from Dublin City University and is a graduate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
