The Hall of Flame Fire Museum pays tribute to firefighters and firefighting through the ages. The development of fire brigades has walked hand in hand with the development of the communities that they serve, the general public are part of this heritage and we provide the venue through which you can share it... The Fire Services Historical Society was founded in January 1968. We were registered as an incorporated society in December 1970 (No.220281). We registered with the Charities Commission as a charitable entity in June 2008 (No.CC41931)... On 15 January 1968, Mike Hayes and John Shanks, the 1st secretary-manager of Ferrymead Heritage Park, found an 1873 Shand Mason steam fire engine in a dilapidated shed in a suburb of Christchurch. They convinced the owner, Bill Clapham, that it needed to be restored and Mike would get a group together to do the job - and so the first donated fire appliance was gratefully accepted. .
