The actor Harold Russell, a veteran who lost both of his hands in a training accident during World War II. His performance as Homer in the Oscar-winning The Best Years of Our Lives earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and an honorary Academy Award for his performance's "bringing hope and courage to fellow veterans." It is the only time an actor has won two Academy Awards for the same performance.
