Kate Jones

Kate Jones has more than 20 years experience in senior government and leadership positions. Kate served as a Minister in the Queensland Government for more than eight years in a range of portfolios including State Development, Education, Tourism and Major Events and Innovation and Climate Change. Kate was also the Minister for the Commonwealth Games working closely with key industry partners and all levels of government to successfully deliver Queensland's largest ever event, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. Throughout 2020, Kate was instrumental in working with many national sporting codes to ensure they could continue to operate safely during the COVID-19 pandemic and she led the government's economic response for the tourism and events industries. Kate is a Director on the Board of Paralympics Australia having been appointed in July 2022. Kate has also served as a member of the Cabinet Budget Review Committee developing and implementing Queensland's state budget and overarching economic strategy for the state. Kate has a Masters in Environmental Law (ANU) and a Bachelor of Arts, Journalism Major (QUT). Throughout her career Kate has also served on a number of government and non-government boards at both a state and national level. Kate has strong skills in strategy development and partnerships, crisis management, media relations and communications.

Tony McGrath brings more than 30 years of experience in business, particularly in re-shaping companies and providing high-level strategic advice, to the Commission. A former partner at KPMG, Tony is the co-founder of McGrathNicol, one of the country's most highly respected restructuring and advisory firms, which was established mid-2004. Tony has advised on a number of high profile corporate restructures including Pan Pharmaceuticals Group as well as HIH, which is considered one of the largest failures in Australian corporate history. Tony acted as liquidator and scheme manager of the HIH Group of Companies. Tony brings valuable experience and insight to the Commission from working across a diverse range of sectors including insurance, superannuation, finance, mining, property and transport. He has a range of experience in advising boards on governance issues, assisting boards in undertaking restructuring, undertaking transactions, chairing audit committee roles and understanding regulatory requirements. Tony is also on the boards of Servcorp Limited and the National Foundation for Medical Research and Innovation.

Wayne Pearce

His inspirational rise from hotdog seller at Leichhardt Oval to one of the greatest Balmain players of all time made Wayne a genuine local hero and an idol to thousands of fans. a young representative player he would be chosen in one of the greatest touring teams to leave Australia and return as the most valuable player of the 1982 ‘Invincibles'. Four years later he would be the first man to lead NSW to a 3-0 State of Origin Series win. Voted the game's best and fairest in 1985, the heartache of two losing Balmain Grand Finals in 1988 and 1989 only served to underline his own champion qualities. National Rugby League respects and honours the Traditional Custodians of the land and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and future.
