In the West, yoga can lean towards focus on the physical body. The asanas, or postures, practiced on the mat help to strengthen your body, increase flexibility and balance, and develop focus - lessons that can also be applied in your daily life. However, the traditional definition of yoga is "to yoke or create union" and refers to creating a connection between the body and the mind. Combining the practices of asana, pranayama (breathing), dharana (focused concentration) and dhyana (meditation) works to develop this connection and can help to manage attention deficit disorder as well as reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and insomnia.* Thus, Orchid Asana emphasizes yoga as a holistic practice, meaning it benefits the whole person...
There are a number of styles of asana practice. Orchid Asana primarily focuses on two types: Slow Vinyasa and Restorative. In Slow Vinyasa yoga you mindfully flow through asanas at a slower pace with an emphasis on coordinating movement to breath.
