Dr. Raymond Cox

Dr. Raymond Cox currently serves as Executive Director of the Volunteers in Medicine clinic on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. He also serves as consultant to the Perinatal Steering Committee for Ascension Health. He served as Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC and as Chair of Ob/Gyn at Saint Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Cox received his undergraduate degree from Howard University and medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology from Emory University/Grady Memorial Hospital. He received his MBA in Medical Management from Johns Hopkins. Dr. Cox has spent most of his career caring for underserved populations, with an emphasis on maternal and child health. He has served on several committees for ACOG, including Chair of the Committee on the Health of Underserved Women. He recently served on the Secretary's Advisory Committee on Infant Mortality and on the Government Affairs and Public Policy Committee for March of Dimes and is Past Board Chair for the National Perinatal Information Center.

Dr. Tese Stephens

Dr. Tese Stephens is an Associate Professor in the College of Nursing with primary teaching responsibilities in the RN-BSN program. She has over 30 years of nursing experience in both clinical and educational settings. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from East Tennessee State University, her Masters of Science in Nursing from King College, a post-master's certificate in nursing education from the University of Tennessee, and her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Tennessee. She is a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and a nursing education consultant. She is an active member of several professional organizations including Sigma Theta Tau International and the National League for Nursing. She has previously served on the Continuing Education (CE) review committee for the Tennessee Nurses Association and the QSEN RN-BSN national taskforce. She is the author of several publications, book chapters, and is a frequent presenter at regional and national conferences/workshops on topics related to nursing students and new graduate success, nursing education best practices, and interprofessional teams. Dr. Stephens' research explores the concept of resilience in healthcare professionals/students as a tool for personal growth and well-being, as well as a means of improving patient outcomes. She is the author of Stephens' Model of Resilience and the founder of RN P.R.E.P. (personal resilience enhancement plan), an interactive learning experience for nursing students and new graduate nurses. Her resilience model has been extended to Holocaust Survivors and veterans. Dr. Stephens works closely with several Holocaust organizations and is an advisory board member for the Vantage Point Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting post-9/11 veterans.

Mr. Sacco is a consultant and trainer. Trained as a clinical social worker, Jim has provided services to individuals with HIV in medical, mental health, and community-based settings. Since 1986, he has merged his clinical practice and delivery of health training on a range of topics including motivational interviewing, addictions, counseling interventions, case management, and teen pregnancy prevention. Previous clients include the World Health Organization, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Duke University, Emory University, the University of Alabama, and state and local health departments throughout the southeast. Mr. Sacco has trained more than 30,000 health care workers since 1986.

Jennifer Bailey is the Senior Director of Operations and Programs and Director of the Office for Telehealth Education at the South Carolina Area Health Education Consortium. Prior to her role with SC AHEC, she served in leadership positions at Wake Forest School of Medicine, facilitated the interprofessional core course at the University of South Carolina, directed the interprofessional core course for MUSC Students, and worked with the MUSC Health clinical enterprise to develop teamwork and interprofessional collaboration training for all clinical staff. She is a Master Trainer for TeamSTEPPS® and has advanced training in quality improvement and change leadership from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. Bailey has over 14 years of experience developing, facilitating, and evaluating health professions clinical and didactic education programs, interprofessional education and practice, teamwork training initiatives and professional development curricula for a variety of health care providers. Her research interests include participatory research, social determinants of health, interprofessional collaborative practice and education, patient safety and quality.

With nearly 20 years of clinical and health care leadership experience, Shawn has a demonstrated record in successfully achieving results with a focus on quality improvement and cost-efficiency. In Shawn's previous Administrator of Telehealth role at the Medical University of South Carolina, he oversaw the strategic initiatives and operations of the MUSC Center for Telehealth, a HRSA-designated National Telehealth Center of Excellence. In this position, he managed the operations of telehealth services that range from the ICU to the home, including a 32-hospital telestroke network and one of the fastest growing school-based telehealth networks in the country. Shawn also worked collaboratively in statewide strategic planning and furthering the health of South Carolinians with telehealth technology through the South Carolina Telehealth Alliance (SCTA). Victoria Ladd is the State School Nurse Consultant for South Carolina, a position which is shared by two state agencies, the SC Dept. of Health and Environmental Control and the SC Dept. of Education to address the professional development and support of school nursing and other school health initiatives. Vicky is an RN with an MSN in nursing administration from St. Joseph's College of Maine, and a bachelor's degree in economics from Boston College.
