Alan Buchanan

Alan moved to Gibraltar and joined Triay & Triay in September 2008 following his qualification as a Northern Irish solicitor in 2003. Alan is a Director in the Corporate & Commercial and Financial Services teams. Alan specialises in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). He has developed an excellent reputation as a leading lawyer in this sector and regularly works on international high value transactions, advising on a full range of corporate, commercial and financing matters including acquisition and project financings (including aircraft and ship finance), leveraged, asset-based, syndicated, secured and multi-currency lending, capital markets transactions, working capital facilities and structuring, takeovers, management buy-outs, buy-ins, shareholders' disputes, joint ventures, franchising and commercial agency. Alan has additional expertise in employment law and advises on employment law matters within a commercial context. Celine Power

Celine is an Associate at Triay and forms part of the Dispute Resolution team where her primary focus is Family and Personal Injury. Within the Family department, Celine works closely with Charles Simpson dealing with various matrimonial and child related matters including, but not limited to, divorce, maintenance, child contact and adoption. Within the Personal Injury team, Celine works closely with Simon Triay and has assisted in several matters arising from road traffic accidents, breaches of health and safety, clinical negligence and employer's liability. Prior to joining the firm, Celine completed her Bachelor of Arts with Honours at the University of Cumbria in 2018, and later went on to successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Law followed by the Bar Training Course both, at Manchester Metropolitan University. Celine was subsequently called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in October 2022. Upon joining the firm in September 2022, Celine completed her training contract which consisted of completing her seats in the Property, Litigation and Corporate and Commercial departments while simultaneously undertaking the Professional Skills Course and the Professional Certificate of Competence in Gibraltar Law with the University of Gibraltar. Charles Simpson

Charles was called to the Bar in England and Wales in 1996 and subsequently in Gibraltar in 1997. He qualified as an English solicitor in 2003. His main practice areas are: commercial litigation (including commercial fraud / asset tracing); insolvency; and Private Client disputes (including trust disputes as well as divorce/ financial remedies/ family disputes). Charles is recognised as a leading individual (band 1) in Dispute Resolution (Gibraltar) by Legal 500 and was recently invited to join ICC Fraudnet, a specialist network of anti-fraud and asset tracing lawyers. Charles is the sole Gibraltar member. Other memberships include ACTAPS; Resolution; the Association of European Lawyers and Globalaw. He has contributed the Gibraltar Chapter of "International Trust Disputes" as published by Oxford University Press and also the Asset Tracing and Recovery Review as published by the Law Reviews. He has also written the Gibraltar Chapter in four editions of a "Comparative Guide to Family Law" as published by Thomson Reuters as well as in International Relocation of Children as published by the same publisher. Charles currently acts on behalf of the liquidator of Enterprise Insurance Company Plc in relation to Gibraltar's largest insurance liquidation. He appeared as junior counsel in the reported Privy Council case of Credit Agricole Corporation and Investment Bank v Papadimitriou [2015] UKPC 13 which is a leading authority in relation to proprietary claims (www.jcpc.uk/decided-cases/docs/JCPC_2014_0023_Judgment.pdf). Daniel Herbert

Daniel is an associate and forms part of the Property Team and the Corporate & Commercial Team. Daniel was recognised as a Rising Star in Real Estate & Construction in the 2023 Legal 500 EMEA and a recommended lawyer in Real Estate & Construction in the 2022 Legal 500 EMEA. Daniel primarily focuses on property matters, including residential and commercial conveyancing, advising landlords and tenants in contentious and non-contentious matters involving leases, advising lending institutions on corporate financing and acquisitions involving real estate, and assisting various property management companies with their day-to-day business. Daniel also occasionally assists the Corporate & Commercial team with employment matters, shareholder disputes, mergers & acquisitions, and general corporate work. Dhiraj Nagrani

Dhiraj is an Associate and forms part of the Dispute Resolution team, with a wide litigation practice. He is frequently instructed on matters of personal injury & clinical negligence and on matters of commercial litigation. He also regularly advises on wide range of litigious matters including contractual disputes, trust disputes, debt recoveries, property disputes, landlord & tenant matters, professional negligence, judicial review and police misconduct and has experience in company and insolvency applications. He frequently appears in the Supreme Court of Gibraltar. He is also familiar with regulatory proceedings and processes. Dhiraj is well acquainted with various methods of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and is regularly instructed to take part in Joint Settlement Meetings and Mediations on behalf of clients. He has experience in other cost-effective options of ADR such as Early Neutral Evaluation and Expert Determination and is able to advise on a range of out-of-court settlement options and pragmatic solutions to disputes. Dhiraj also advises on the administration of estates and has experience in probate claims. He is regularly instructed in connection with lasting powers of attorney. Helen Murphy

Helen is an Associate and forms part of the Financial Services Team and the Dispute Resolution Team. Helen works closely with Jay Gomez and Javi Triay of the Financial Services Team, advising on prospective funds, investment managers, insurance companies, insurance intermediaries, banks, e-money institutions, payment service and DLT providers on licensing requirements and regulatory, operational, passporting and distribution matters. Helen also works with Simon Triay and Dhiraj Nagrani of the Dispute Resolution Team, assisting on personal injury, medical malpractice and professional negligence claims. Helen initially read Law at the University of Sunderland, graduating with a First-Class Honours in 2015 as well as a Higher Diploma in Paralegal Studies. Thereafter, she completed the LLM in Legal Practice and Legal Practice Course with Distinction from the University of Sunderland in 2017. Prior to joining Triay & Triay, Helen worked as an Underwriter at a Gibraltar-based motor insurance company. Helen has also previously worked as a paralegal for the independent legal charity, Prisoners' Advice Service based in London city centre. James Ramagge

James is a Director in the firm's Shipping & Admiralty department. James has 25 years of experience in the maritime law sector. He acts on behalf of both ship owners and banks in the registration and financing of vessels on the Gibraltar Commercial Ships Register. He has advised extensively in relation to the Gibraltar aspects of a number of high profile maritime restructurings in the last few years. He also acts for individual private clients who wish to register vessels on the Gibraltar Pleasure Yacht Registry, negotiating yacht building contracts if required, as well as for banks and leasing companies financing those yachts. Separately, James is extremely experienced in ship arrests, especially on behalf of mortgagee banks and bondholders. He has acted on almost all major admiralty actions in Gibraltar in the last 20 years, including the jurisdiction's two largest fleet arrests as well as numerous other enforcements. Javi Triay

Javi is a Partner and forms part of the Financial Services team and the Shipping and Admiralty team. He has advised on a wide variety of financial services matters which include establishing regulated entities (AIFMs, EIFs, MIFID firms, payment institutions, insurers, e-money institutions) and advising them on their applications to the GFSC. He also regularly advises licensed entities with regulatory issues and has advised a number of clients on the establishment of crypto funds in Gibraltar. Notably, Javi was actively involved in the establishment of the first Gibraltar crypto fund to list on a recognised ESMA stock exchange. Javi has been instrumental in establishing the FinTech team as one of the most highly regarded teams in Gibraltar and since the enactment of the distributed ledger technology regulations, he has been advising numerous blockchain start-ups (to include DLT licences and ICOs) and traditional financial services firms using blockchain technology on their establishment and regulatory position in Gibraltar. Javi was elected onto the executive of Gibraltar Association of New Technologies (GANT) and has formed part of the working group being consulted by HM Government of Gibraltar on regulations to govern token sales/initial coin offerings/token generation events. Javi was also seconded to the Financial Services Commission where he assisted with the initial phases of the redrafting of Gibraltar's financial services legislation. Javier Triay

Javier is a member of the Middle Temple and was called to the Bar in both Gibraltar and England in 1984. He is a leading member of the Corporate & Commercial, Financial Services and Private Client teams. Javier has considerable experience and expertise in advising on corporate and commercial matters including takeovers, company acquisitions, corporate finance, commercial property matters including new developments as well as business start ups and is internationally recognised as a leading lawyer in this area. Jay Gomez

He has been elected on numerous occasions by the legal community in Gibraltar to represent them on the executive body of the Gibraltar Funds and Investment Association (GFIA). Jay has held the office of Chairman for one term, Deputy Chairman for two terms and Head of the Technical Committee of GFIA. Jay has played an integral role in numerous changes to Gibraltar law: including the National Private Placement Rules, the Small AIFM Rules in Gibraltar following the implementation of the AIFM Directive, amendments to Gibraltar's Experienced Investor Funds regime, the creation of a dual-regime for funds following Gibraltar's exit from the European Union and the amendments to Gibraltar's financial services legislation to give effect to Brexit. In 2022 Jay was appointed by Gibraltar's Minister for Financial Services to a policy group to advise HM Government of Gibraltar on policy relating to financial services. In 2024, the Group was tasked with acting as a think tank for finance sector product development. Jay was instrumental in establishing our FinTech team as one of the most highly regarded teams in Gibraltar.
