Allan Hartwell - Managing Director

In 2004 Allan established the first of the Market Place companies with business partner Ian Hill and is fondly recognised as the face of the company. In 1992 he organised the UK's first ever European Market in Manchester. In 1994-1996 he was appointed Chairman of the Association of Municipal Retail Markets attached to The World Union of Wholesale Markets and has since then represented a number of leading national and international market organisations: For many, Allan Hartwell is the face of Market Place with an infectious passion for keeping the tradition of market trading alive. Following a successful career in local Government where he was Head of the Commercial Services Division in Manchester City Council, Allan moved into the private sector and in 2004 established the first of the Market Place companies with business partner Ian Hill.

Ian Hill

Ian is best known for his work on CPA and Best Value where he was NABMA's Officer Advisor and also for steering the Industry Food Safety Guide to Good Food Hygiene and Practice on Markets through to publication. Formerly the Chief Market Officer for the country's largest Metropolitan Borough Council (Doncaster MBC), Ian became Chief Officer in the authority's Strategic Programmes Unit. In this role he had special responsibility for the Government Initiative, funded by the Regional Development Agency Urban Initiatives Programme, a programme with the objective of creating urban regeneration proposals for six nominated towns throughout Yorkshire and Humberside. The Urban Initiatives Programme led to the creation of a twenty-year strategic development plan encapsulated in the Doncaster Renaissance Charter for Doncaster Town Centre. Ian also retained direct responsibility for the authority's extensive market, and in 1992 led the team that delivered a multi-million pound redevelopment and refurbishment scheme of one of the largest indoor and outdoor market undertakings in the country. The Corn Exchange re-development won several national and international awards for innovation and regeneration of a Grade II* Listed building.

Maryjane Hartwell

Maryjane joined the company in 2004 following a very successful career in the Civil Service. She brought with her extensive experience in Finance and Administrative Management. During her time with Market Place she has been central to the development of the company.

Nick Rhodes - CEO

In his previous role at Leicester City Council, Nick was responsible for managing a large city centre indoor and outdoor market complex open six days a week offering over 350 stalls per day and a smaller 60-stall district market. He transformed Leicester Market when he managed 3 large redevelopment programmes and under his leadership the market was twice was voted ‘Britain's Favourite Market'. Nick has previously held the title of President of the Institute of Market Officers. He has also established himself as a leading market consultant undertaking over 30 market consultancy projects. He is perhaps best known for publishing the industry recognised Rhodes Report the first national survey of UK Markets. Nick now plays a central roll in the consultancy delivery from Market Place. Nick Rhodes joins Market Place as the new Chief Executive

Paul Weigert

Paul joined the company in 2018 quickly becoming an integral part of the team. Like his colleague in operations, Paul is a hands on Market Manager, working with traders to ensure excellent delivery He will be studying for the NABMA Market Manager Diploma in 2019.
