Leslie Coleman

Leslie Coleman had been in real estate continuously since 1920, and from 1921 to 1931 his firm, Coleman Brothers, was located on LaSalle Street in Chicago. From 1931 to 1940 (during the Great Depression) he operated his real estate business from his home in Wayne, Illinois. Leslie chose Coleman Land Company as the name of the firm because the term "Land" meant not only the earth, (surface, sub-surface and air) but all things attached to it by nature or man. The Coleman Land Company's first location was on Main Street in downtown St. Charles above the then St. Charles National Bank building. In 1952, the Company moved to a downtown storefront building at 217 West Main Street until 1985 when they purchased their present corner location at 703 East Main Street. Leslie died in 1957 and James Coleman carried on the family tradition. In 1960, as result of his efforts to broaden the scope of the Company as well as increasing its professionalism, James Coleman sought and earned the coveted MAI designation by the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers, now known as The Appraisal Institute.
