Ash joined Dixons Unity Academy in September 2019 after working for a number of years as a PE Teacher and Head of PE at large comprehensive schools in Yorkshire. He quickly moved from Assistant Vice Principal to Vice Principal and Senior Vice Principal taking on a range of roles at both Dixons Trinity Chapeltown and Dixons Unity Academy including curriculum, alternate provision and schools culture. Ash was appointed as Principal of Dixons Unity Academy in January 2023 and is excited to lead the school through the next stage of its transformational journey.

David Spencer

Dave has been teaching 29 years and has taught at a number of different schools including Wortley High School. He has worked at Assistant Head level at Tong High school, Dixons Allerton and Carlton Bolling. At Dixons unity Academy he has a number of responsibilities including Raising Achievement and Curriculum. Dave has a passion for empowering and enabling students and colleagues to be the best they can be.

Kate Paddy

Kate grew up in Bury, Lancashire, and attended Tottington High School, and later Holy Cross Sixth Form College. She then attended Leeds University to complete a degree in English Literature and Theatre Studies; having fallen in love with the city, she has remained in Leeds ever since. Kate spent some time travelling around America and Asia, before becoming a teaching assistant in preparation for completing her PGCE. Kate has been an English teacher since 2007, working continuously in schools serving areas with high levels of economic deprivation. In her first three years of teaching she completed a Masters in Education, and then went on to become a Teaching Leaders Fellow. Kate spent the first nine years of her career at Intake High School, which later became Leeds West Academy. During this time, she worked as a middle leader and later a senior leader. In her time as a senior leader, she has led on the development of middle leaders, Behaviour and Safety and also Student Outcomes. In September 2017, Kate joined Dixons Unity Academy as Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning. Kate is proud to be part of the Dixons Unity team and is looking forward to developing teaching and learning whilst supporting staff, students and the community, all of whom richly deserve the success that Dixons will undoubtedly bring.

Phil Grayson

Phil grew up in Newcastle Upon Tyne before moving to West Yorkshire to read Genetics at the University of Leeds. In the summer of 2000 he began teaching science at Wortley High School and held various posts in Middle Leadership. From there he moved to the East of Leeds to join a Senior Leadership Team whereby he held various roles of responsibility, such as, marketing/transition and data analysis. Phil then qualified as a SENDCo in 2013. For over 19 years, Phil has worked predominantly in areas of socio-economic difficulty before joining us at Dixons Unity. He is committed to helping educate and transform the lives and opportunities of the students he serves.

Sarah Clynes

Sarah grew up in Leeds and attended Roundhay High School. Sarah was able to indulge her love for literature at university, graduating from Newcastle University with a degree in English Literature. Sarah joined the Teach First programme in 2009, inspired by their mission of addressing educational disadvantage, and spent her first two years of teaching at a secondary school in Seacroft. During this time Sarah also gained her Masters degree in Education Leadership from the University of Manchester. Sarah moved to Kings Science Academy, which then became Dixons Kings Academy, in 2011 and remained there until 2018. During this time, she worked as a middle leader leading a highly successful English department to achieve some of the best results in Bradford, and later a senior leader, focusing on QA. Sarah joined Dixons Unity Academy in 2019 and is incredibly proud to be part of the community. She is dedicated to working with students, staff and parents to ensure that all students are successful and leave ready to thrive at university or a viable alternative.
