Becki LaPorte

Becki LaPorte is a Strategic Advisor in the Fraud & AML practice at Datos Insights, covering anti-money laundering, Know Your Customer, and sanctions matters. Becki brings nearly 25 years of financial crime compliance and business experience, including conducting investigations, developing and delivering comprehensive training, and consulting on program design, development, and implementation. Most recently Becki operated her own consulting firm advising and supporting firms of all sizes across a wide spectrum of financial crimes compliance matters. Through this role, she served as an interim AML Compliance Officer as well as created, revamped, and streamlined multiple financial crime programs. Previous roles include Director, Global Risk and Compliance at Computer Services Inc.; Chief AML Compliance Officer at Advisor Group; and Associate Director and Lead Compliance Trainer, Regulatory Operations at FINRA. She is a Financial Intelligence Specialist and a Certified Financial Crime Specialist, and she also serves as a member of the ACFCS Advisory Board. She is a graduate of Penn State University and is currently enrolled at PennWest University in the masters degree program in the field of Criminology, Behavioral Crime Analysis

Brendan Purcell

Brendan Purcell is Senior Director, Enterprise Fraud Detection at TIAA, a leading provider of secure retirements and outcome-focused investment solutions to millions of people and thousands of institutions. Brendan has worked in Financial Services fraud management for more than 20 years and currently leads Fraud Detection Operations for TIAA, covering retirement plans, self-directed Brokerage, and IRA accounts along with Trust and Private Asset Management relationships. Prior to joining TIAA in 2012, Brendan held various leadership roles within fraud management at Wells Fargo/Wachovia, including leading both the digital fraud operations and the loss trending & analysis teams. Currently, Brendan is leading collaboration efforts to combat fraud within the Retirement industry having recently been announced as the Chair of SPARK Institute's Fraud Prevention Committee. Brendan is also a member of the Federal Reserve scams information sharing work group.

Charles (Chuck) Subrt

Charles (Chuck) Subrt is the Director of Aite-Novarica's Fraud & AML practice, and he covers anti-money laundering and compliance issues. Chuck brings to Aite-Novarica 20 years of legal and compliance experience and a deep expertise advising business leaders, driving change, and establishing strong, self-sustaining AML and financial crime compliance and risk management programs at a global financial services company. For the past 10 years, Chuck led multiple compliance functions for Sun Life Financial, where he delivered strategic and thought leadership as well as instilled vibrant risk management practices. During his seven-year tenure as the Chief AML Officer, he elevated Sun Life's global AML frameworks and systems to industry best practices and introduced significant process improvements. Orchestrating numerous AML system transformation and integration projects, Chuck successfully leveraged technology and innovation to advance risk mitigation and promote more efficient day-to-day business activities. And to drive enhanced AML risk awareness and greater control effectiveness across all business lines, he designed new and innovative risk assessment and testing methodologies. Prior to Sun Life, Chuck co-founded a Boston-based regional company servicing and consulting on tax-deferred exchange transactions for individual and corporate clients. Chuck's early career roles include practicing law in Massachusetts. Chuck earned his Juris Doctor at Boston College Law School and his Bachelor of Arts at Colgate University. Recognized as a thought leader within the AML compliance community, he served on an AML working committee for a global insurer's chief compliance officer forum. Traveling extensively throughout Canada, the U.K., and Asia, he has a broad understanding of different geographies and cultures as well as how they operate and do business.

David Mattei

David has over 15 years of experience in the payments industry designing, building, and launching fraud and dispute systems. Fraud constantly poses financial and reputational risks to parties on both sides of a transaction, and David's customers have included merchants and financial institutions, giving him a unique and comprehensive perspective of these issues. Prior to joining Datos Insights, David was Vice President and Senior Leader of Product Management for Worldpay, managing a team responsible for fraud and dispute solutions for 1,400 financial institutions, more than 1 million merchants, and 40 billion transactions annually. David and his team constantly monitored evolving industry technologies and fraudsters' emerging attack vectors, and created strategic product plans and operational processes to mitigate those attacks. He has over 30 years of experience delivering innovative solutions that drive customer value and is a frequent speaker at industry events.

Jerry Tylman

Jim Mortensen

Jim Mortensen is a Strategic Advisor in Datos Insights's Fraud & AML practice, covering identity, fraud, and data security issues. Jim has been in the financial services industry for over 30 years, delivering fraud prevention, identity verification, and credit underwriting solutions to top-tier financial institutions both domestically and internationally. Through his experience in the industry, he has developed a substantial knowledge base spanning fraud and credit management, analytics development and implementation, product strategy, and product management. Prior to joining Datos Insights, Jim held several roles in the industry at Equifax, Early Warning Services, and American Express. While at Early Warning Services, Jim led the Identity Solutions product line and was responsible for developing and managing products that mitigated the potential losses on deposit accounts across the country's largest banks. Significant among his accomplishments was the development and implementation of a suite of analytic scores that validated consumer identities and predicted the likelihood of future loss. Additionally, while at Early Warning Services, Jim led and managed the company's risk advisory committee, composed of fraud and security executives across the banking industry, which helped to determine the direction of the company's product roadmap. Prior to joining Early Warning Services, Jim spent the earlier part of his career at American Express, where he held numerous positions on both the issuing and acquiring sides of the company. The bulk of his time there was spent in the international business, where his group was integral to the company's expansion of its card product lines to include revolving, cobrand, and premium charge card products across Asia, Europe, and Latin America. As part of this expansion, he and his team developed the underwriting and fraud policies, models, processes, and related automation supporting both the lending and charge card product lines. Jim also serves on the board of the Arizona Chapter of the ALS Association, the only national not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease). In his tenure at the association, he has held the positions of treasurer, vice-chairperson, and chairperson for the chapter. He currently serves on the national board of representatives and the national finance committee. Jim holds a B.S. in Accounting from Arizona State University and is a certified public accountant licensed in the state of Arizona.

Julie Conroy

Prior to Julie's tenure at Datos Insights, she had more than a decade of hands-on product management experience working with financial institutions, payments processors, and risk management companies. She spent a number of years as Vice President of Product Solutions with Early Warning Services, where her team managed a suite of fraud-prevention services that provided clients with more than US$1 billion per year in loss avoidance. Under Julie's leadership, Early Warning launched multiple new solutions to successfully detect and prevent fraud; further, Julie was a key member of the team that facilitated the spin-off of Early Warning Services from First Data Corporation to Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, and BB&T. She also led operational process improvements for NextCard, identifying points of compromise and implementing solutions to reduce fraud and operational expenses. She began her career as a Research Analyst at E-Offering, where she analyzed online financial services and risk management firms. Julie has presented at numerous conferences, including Money 20/20, NACHA, MasterCard Global Risk Symposium, and multiple vendor user conferences. She has been quoted in numerous media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News and World Report, American Banker, SmartMoney, and NPR. Julie holds an M.A. in International Policy from the Monterey Institute of International Studies and a B.A. in Business Administration from the Michigan State University Honors College, and she is fluent in Spanish.

His passion lies in creating secure environments, staying ahead of ahead of emerging threats, and educating others about the importance of safeguarding their assets.

Susan R Shaffer

Susan R Shaffer currently serves as the BSA and Security Vice President for Quad City Bank and Trust (QCBT). She has been in the banking and financial industry for 30 years. Susan began her career with QCR Holdings (Parent Company of QCBT) in May 2007 as a Loss Prevention and Security Officer, playing a key role in fraud prevention in QCR's subsidiary banks and serving in a dual role as Security Officer for QCBT. In January 2012 she took on her current role with QCR's Quad City Bank and Trust subsidiary as the BSA and Security Officer where she continued to oversee fraud prevention as well until August 2021. Susan plays a key role in administering the bank's BSA regulatory compliance program, working closely with examiners, and serving as their point of contact during examinations, and serves to coordinate the administration of the bank's Security and Security Training program as well. Susan is actively involved with The Quad City Security Officer Group, previously serving as the president of this group of bank professionals working together to help manage fraud and security threats within the community. In addition, she helped start two similar Security Groups in Iowa and coordinated a robbery victim peer group in the QC area. Susan is a current board member for a non-profit organization called New Kingdom Trailriders, a group dedicated to providing therapeutic Horseback riding for individuals of all ages and abilities, in addition serves on several of their board committees. Susan is the co-chair on the Association of Certified Financial Crime Specialist Midwest Chapter and holds the following certifications in her area of expertise; Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Association of Certified Financial Crime Specialist (ACFCS), and a Certified Community Bank Security Officer (CCBSO).
