Brendan Mewhinney is a Partner at HSM, where he helps clients achieve cost-effective results. Practicing law for over 10 years, Brendan has a diverse litigation and transactional practice, concentrating in representing individuals and small and medium sized businesses in commercial litigation, construction, general corporate, real estate, commercial transactions, and estate planning.
Brendan's litigation practice includes general commercial, construction, shareholder disputes, creditor's rights and collections, personal injury, and insurance defense. He has tried cases in state courts throughout Ohio and has mediated numerous cases to positive results for clients.
Brendan's transactional practice includes assisting individuals and small and medium sized businesses with mergers and acquisitions, shareholder buy-sell agreements, commercial and residential real estate, and general corporate guidance from entity selection/formation to wind-up and dissolutions and on-going corporate governance matters.
A native Clevelander, Brendan is a graduate of The Ohio State University (2009) and Cleveland State University College of Law (2012).
Dave Henderson heads the firm's insurance defense practice. Since 1992, he has represented insurance carriers, individuals and business entities throughout Ohio with regard to claims for personal injury, property damage, and insurance coverage, as well as other civil litigation matters. Paul T. Murphy is currently the part-time Director of Law for both the City of Lyndhurst and the City of Mayfield Heights, as well as Special Counsel to the City of Chardon. In that capacity he prepares all legislation, advises the Mayors, councils and administrations as to various aspects of public law, and represents the Cities in litigation and administrative proceedings.
In addition to his public practice, Mr. Murphy maintains a general private practice consisting mainly of business law, including litigation, real estate law and estate planning. He has litigated in all Courts in the State of Ohio, as well as various administrative agencies such as the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services and the Worker's Compensation Commission. He has also litigated matters in various Federal Courts, as well as the various Federal Administrative Agencies.
Mr. Murphy has practiced law in Ohio for over 38 years. He has been in private practice for 25 years, most recently as a shareholder of Paul T. Murphy Co., LPA, and prior to that as a partner at Carbone & Murphy in Mayfield Village and an associate at Thrasher, Dinsmore & Dolan in Chardon. Before that he was First Assistant General Counsel with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District in Cleveland.
Mr. Murphy received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Villanova University, and his Juris Doctor from Cleveland Marshall College of Law.
Along with being HSM's Vice-President, Ray Schmidlin, Jr. leads its personal injury practice. Ray has helped numerous victims of significant injuries recover the money they deserve. Ray has also represented numerous individuals in misdemeanor matters throughout Cleveland's Eastern suburbs and has significant experience with municipal law.
