I3 STUDY

The IBD Immunology Initiative, better known as the I3 Study, is a comprehensive research study at the University of Pennsylvania Health System created to better understand the connection between inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and the immune system. It is a joint study initiative between the Division of Gastroenterology and the Institute for Immunology at the University of Pennsylvania. Founded by Dr. Meena Bewtra and in collaboration with the Penn Institute for Immunology, the I3 Study aims to enroll every patient with Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and indeterminate colitis seeking care at Penn in order to create a biobank of tissue and blood samples as well as clinical information. The data and samples we collect will be used for various studies to help us better understand what causes IBD and how we can better treat patients in the future...
