Elizabeth Knox

Elizabeth Knox is an attorney with a background in civil rights, employment law, education law, and corporate law. Prior to entering private practice, she served as in-house counsel, advising on contracts, government audits, and employment and labor issues. She also has experience defining and developing corporate policies and procedures tailored to a SaaS scaleup. After law school, Elizabeth completed a clerkship in the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico. Elizabeth earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2016, where she was a Harvard Law School Presidential Scholar for Public Interest and received the Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowship and the James Vorenberg Equal Justice Summer Fellowship. During her time at Harvard, she was a Technical Editor for the Harvard Journal of Law and Gender, a team leader for the Harvard Law Entrepreneurship Project, a member of La Alianza, and a Research Assistant for two professors and the Harvard Law School Problem Solving Workshop. During law school, Elizabeth spent time interning at the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, a disability rights impact litigation firm, the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, and the US Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas. She also holds a B.A., magna cum laude, in Communications Studies from Southwestern University. Elizabeth is the Founder of Access the Dream, a service that advised businesses on employee disability issues. She now counsels parents and students on accommodations and self-advocacy strategies on a pro bono basis.

Emma Cano

Emma Cano's practice focuses on commercial litigation with experience litigating matters in both federal and state courts. Emma Cano has extensive experience in all aspects of litigation: early case assessment, alternative dispute resolution procedures, all facets of discovery (including e-discovery), motion practice, pre-trial preparation, trial and settlement. She has tried more than 20 cases to jury verdict and various others before the bench, and has successfully defeated claims on summary judgment on behalf of her clients. Although Emma litigates cases throughout the state, her fluency in Spanish and Hispanic roots uniquely position her to litigate cases throughout South Texas. Emma's practice focuses on complex commercial litigation with experience litigating matters in both federal and state courts. Her cases cover a range of commercial issues, including fraud, partnership disputes, franchise-related controversies, contract and construction disputes, bond claims, insurance coverage disputes and other litigation matters. Emma has defended numerous catastrophic injury and fatality claims in a variety of industries and has represented businesses in numerous tort matters. Additionally, Emma has represented franchisors in various industries including, tax preparation companies, auto services and food service companies. Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) and Workplace Disasters. In recent years, Emma has handled more than 50 OSHA investigations, many of which resulted from industrial accidents and employee fatalities, for clients such as drilling contractors, construction companies, manufacturers, electrical contractors, and oil and gas-related companies. Emma's unique experience in this area allows her to effectively counsel clients on responding to workplace disasters and dealing with and responding to OSHA's involvement in their business operations. She has repeatedly obtained dismissal of citations against clients involved in OSHA proceedings. Oil and Gas Litigation. Emma has regularly litigated matters arising from oil and gas projects throughout south Texas. She has represented drilling operators, contractors and oilfield services companies in various litigation disputes including contract disputes, royalty disputes and tortious interference claims. Emma has represented numerous companies in lawsuits involving oil and gas-related accidents and employee fatalities.

Sylvia Cardona has a broad complex litigation practice representing companies and individuals in both State and Federal Court proceedings. In her practice, Ms. Cardona handles disputes involving breach of contract, business torts, injunction litigation, real property rights, mineral rights, collection matters, deceptive trade practice, negligence claims, construction defects, personal injury, theft of trade secrets, and professional liability issues. Fluent in Spanish, she also has experience in cross-border transactions and assisting non-U.S. persons and entities with their U.S. businesses. She handles all aspects of litigation and serves as lead counsel in high-stakes related disputes. Sylvia is very active in her community and bar associations. Her passion for service is rooted in her upbringing. The daughter of two migrant farm workers, Sylvia grew up with a strong work ethic and the dream that one could achieve success with discipline and "animo" (motivation).
