Dr. Tara Culbreth-Seward

Job Titles:
  • Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Dr. Tara Culbreth-Seward is a licensed clinical psychologist in The Commonwealth of Virginia. She specializes in conducting psychological and psychoeducational assessments for school aged children and adults. She has specific training in administering assessments for individuals seeking academic accommodations for learning disabilities, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and emotional disorders such as depression and anxiety. With the relatively recent increase in referrals for adult ADHD assessments, she has worked to develop an abbreviated evaluation that would provide sufficient information on areas commonly impacted by this disorder. These evaluations are typically requested by medical professionals prior to prescribing medication in the treatment of attention problems. Dr. Seward is also trained with objective and projective personality measures. These measures are useful in making diagnostic decisions for clients involved in therapy as well as for clients in need of an evaluation to satisfy requirements for bariatric surgery. In addition, Dr. Seward provides therapy for children, adults, and couples. She has experience working with issues of anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral problems, and relational problems. Her approach integrates a variety of therapeutic techniques based on the client's presenting problem and comfort level. Dr. Seward graduated from Campbell University with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She received her master's degree in clinical psychology from Western Carolina University. Following graduation, Dr. Seward worked for two years at Southeastern Center, a community mental health agency in NC, as a Staff Psychologist in the Children and Youth Unit. She left the agency in 2002 and pursued her doctorate degree in clinical psychology from The American School of Professional Psychology/Argosy University, Washington DC campus. Her primary research interests include attachment disorders and psychological testing. Dr. Seward completed her predoctoral internship at The Women's Center in Vienna, Virginia. She provided outpatient therapy services to children and adults. In addition, she conducted comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for children and adults. She remained at The Women's Center for her postdoctoral training. In addition to clinical work, Dr. Seward teaches undergraduate psychology courses for two online universities. The courses include Cognitive Psychology, Child and Adolescent Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, History of Psychology, Social Relationships in Childhood, Human Growth and Development, Introduction to Testing and Assessment, and General Psychology.
