Dr Andrew Patrick

Dr Andrew Patrick was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa in 1992. He spent one year in a registrar post in Neurology at the Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital prior to commencing his registrarship in Ophthalmology at the same institution. During this time he was awarded registrar of the year in 2000 .Following this training he spent a year in the United Kingdom at the Royal Eye Infirmary in Plymouth as a Clinical Fellow. Here he continued with general ophthalmolgy practice and received training in Oculo-plastic surgery. He has obtained FCS(SA)Ophth from the College of Medicine of South Africa in 1999. In 2000 he obtained a FRCS Edin (Ophthalmology) from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. In 2008 Dr Patrick left his practice in Johannesburg to join the Eye Hospital in Launceston. Here he continues to work as a general ophthalmologist with a special interest in oculoplastic and cataract surgery. Dr Jonathan Ruddle

Since 2009 Dr Jon Ruddle has led a busy paediatric eye care clinic at Launceston Eye Doctors. Between his regular bimonthly surgical and consulting visits he works closely with experienced locally based orthoptist Julie Barbour and Colleagues to best manage the full range of childhood eye conditions. Jon graduated from medicine at Melbourne University in 1998. He undertook Ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 2007. Further Fellowships to advance his training in paediatric and genetic ophthalmology took place between the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne and in London at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. Currently Dr Ruddle heads the Ocular Genetic Clinic at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and is a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Children's Hospital. In both institutions he cares for glaucoma of all ages. His paediatric surgical expertise covers childhood squint, complex cataract and glaucoma surgery of all ages. His Melbourne based private practice is Melbourne Children's Eye Clinic in Parkville. Jon continues as a Senior Research Fellow through the Centre for Eye Research Australia with publications and projects incorporating genetic investigations into the care of both common and rare paediatric ocular conditions. He has published work on clinical outcomes in paediatric cataract and glaucoma seeking to find the best solutions for these difficult conditions.

Dr Lucy Goold

Dr Lucy Goold completed her medical training at the University of Sydney. She completed a Masters in Ophthalmology whilst working as an Ophthalmology Registrar in Newcastle, before moving to South Australia for her formal Ophthalmology training. She undertook an Oculoplastics and Orbit fellowship at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Dr Goold has particular interests in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery, thyroid eye disease and cataract surgery.

Mrs Julie Barbour

Julie was born in Durban, South Africa, was educated on the North West Coast of Tasmania and is married with two children. Julie completed her orthoptic training at the Lincoln Institute, School of Health Sciences in Melbourne, Victoria. Her special interests are children and adults with strabismus (turned eye), binocular vision and eye movement disorders. As well as working at Launceston Eye Doctors Julie works at the Launceston Eye Institute and North West Eye Surgeons in Burnie and Devonport. Julie participates in research in the Strabismus Inheritance Study of Tasmania (SIST) and Glaucoma Inheritance Study of Tasmania (GIST).She is Board Member of the Orthoptic Board of Australia. She is an active member of Orthoptics Australia and has held the positions of President and Treasurer and Tasmanian Representative .
