David is an actuary, who works for his professional body, the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, where he leads the Actuarial Monitoring Scheme. Having previously worked as a pensions scheme actuary for over 30 years, he brings a wealth of relevant experience and a successful track record of balancing client service whilst following detailed regulations. David has worked with solicitors in a multitude of professional and family matters, providing him with extensive first hand knowledge of the impact of the work of solicitors; and a clear understanding of what excellence in customer experience looks like. David is Convener of the Law Society of Scotland Regulatory Committee which oversees all aspects of the regulation of Scottish solicitors and comprises solicitor and non-solicitor members.

Diane McGiffen became Chief Executive of the Law Society of Scotland in January 2022. She is a member of the Future of the Legal Profession Working Group led by the Scottish Government's Minister of Victims and Community Safety, and sits on the Audit Committee of the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General, Ireland. Diane is a member of International Institute of Law Association Chief Executives and Chief Executives of European Bar Associations. Diane led on the Society's strategy to support members to thrive in a growing and well-regulated sector. Diane joined the Society from Audit Scotland where she was Chief Operating Officer having been with the organisation in a number of roles since its creation in 2000. In 2021, Diane led their strategy to be a world class organisation, supporting the Auditor General for Scotland, Board and Management Team. Diane's role focused on ensuring the Audit Scotland delivers effective and sustainable public audit in Scotland. Prior to this Diane worked in urban regeneration, in local government and at the House of Commons and has been a member of the Northern Ireland Audit Office audit committee and has undertaken part-time study on the retention of women workers in health and social care.

Liz leads the team responsible for education, training and qualifications. This includes policy aspects of pre and post-qualification education and training; accreditation of providers of the components of the route to qualification; the registration and admission of trainee solicitors; the Society's equality and diversity work; work with schools; engagement with students and trainee solicitors; and the development of qualifications to underpin new categories of affiliate membership. Liz started working at the Law Society of Scotland in 1990 in the Update department before moving to the education and training team where she was appointed Director in October 2000. She is a graduate of the University of East Anglia and of the Open University, where she obtained her MBA while working at the Society. Her previous work is in education administration and adult education.

Patricia originally qualified in Canada with an LLB from Saskatchewan and then as a Barrister and Solicitor in the NWT and Alberta. After practicing there for five years she emigrated to Scotland and requalified as a Scottish Solicitor. Once Patricia qualified as a solicitor she began work with the local authority, originally the Scottish Regional Council and then after reorganisation the Scottish Borders Council. She advised on a range of things from Copyright to Computer contracts though her main responsibilities were to the Social Work Department and Education. Patricia left the Scottish Borders Council after thirteen years to join a high street private practice. Most of her practice work with them was civil court practice with an emphasis on Family Law and applications in connection with Adults with Incapacity. Patricia left that firm after eight years to start up her own practice which while dealing with executries, and employment law was mainly focused on family law and Adults with Incapacity law. Whilst running her own practice in 2015 she was elected to the Law Society Council as the representative for the Scottish Borders and East Lothian. In 2018 Patricia joined another local high street practice to manage their civil court department and in February 2020 became Convenor for the Law Society's Civil Legal Aid Committee. Patricia retired from practice in 2021. She is a Safeguarder, Curator and Child Welfare Reporter and continues to sit on the Law Society Council. Patricia is to be the President of the Law Society of Scotland in 2025/26 and Vice President this May.

Rachel is a qualified solicitor and has worked in private practice in Scotland for more than 25 years, initially as a Corporate solicitor before moving into risk and knowledge management.
