PURDUE EQUESTRIAN

The Purdue Equestrian team was founded in 1980 by Jerry Steinmetz to allow interested Purdue students of all experience levels to participate in the sport of riding. Jerry coached the team until 2017, when his daughter, Krista Steinmetz, took over. Students on the team take hunt seat lessons, take care of the horses, and compete in Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) horse shows. At shows, the team is very competitive, attending IHSA Nationals 20 times, and ten of those times placing in the top 10... The Purdue Equestrian Team is an inclusive team that takes riders from all different equine backgrounds and invites them to participate in the hunt seat equitation discipline in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association.
