A. Charlie R. Malessy

Charlie R. Malessy joined SSEK in 2020 after having previously worked at another prominent law firm in Jakarta, where he focused primarily on general corporate matters, mergers and acquisitions, financing, and commercial disputes. Charlie also worked at a prominent venture capital firm, where his focus was fundraising for startups around the ASEAN region. At SSEK, Charlie specializes in mergers and acquisitions, general corporate and commercial law, trade, and banking and finance. Charlie's diverse background helps him provide insightful, commercially-driven, interdisciplinary and strategic advice and assistance to clients. Charlie has helped represent Fortune 500 and Forbes Global companies, including General Electric, Boeing, Mastercard, Yamaha Motor, Posco and Roche. In the mergers and acquisitions space, Charlie leads SSEK team members in assisting and advising private and public companies in various business sectors, including banking, energy and mineral resources (including renewable energy), healthcare, hotels, financial institutions, manufacturing, oil and gas, plantations and telecommunications. His experience includes assisting PT Indo Kordsa Tbk as the surviving company and PT Indo Kordsa Polyester as the merging company in a merger to consolidate Kordsa Teknik Tekstil's presence in Indonesia, acting for General Electric as Indonesian counsel in connection with the contemplated global spinoff of three business units, and representing Bank Index and its majority shareholders in a rights issue transaction and representing the bank's minority shareholders in selling their direct holdings. Charlie also assists clients in cross-border and domestic finance transactions, where his experience includes representing one of the biggest Indonesian state-owned banks in an IDR 3 trillion financing facility to one of Indonesia's largest telecommunications infrastructure providers. He has also been heavily involved in leading teams advising clients on general corporate matters and assisting clients with legal due diligence projects. Charlie is a frequent participant and speaker in workshops and seminars on the Indonesian legal sector and mergers and acquisitions. Dewi Savitri Reni (Vitri) has a broad practice and has extensive experience advising major Indonesian companies (including Pertamina Group, Angkasa Pura I, Danareksa, Bank Rakyat Indonesia, and MRT Jakarta) and Fortune 500 entities (Nissan, General Electric, Louis Dreyfus, Ping An, Ford, General Motors, Yamaha and Exxon, among others). Vitri is regularly approached by Big Four members Deloitte, EY and KPMG to assist with the legal aspects of client transactions. Vitri has received numerous accolades and awards over the years for her work. She was recognized as Woman Lawyer of the Year at the 2021 Asian Legal Business (ALB) Indonesia Law Awards, Dealmaker of the Year at the 2020 ALB Indonesia Law Awards, and Indonesia Lawyer of the Year at the Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific Awards 2020. Vitri started her career as a defense attorney at one of the most prestigious litigation law firms in Indonesia. In this position, she defended numerous high-profile clients, including Prada (trademark infringement), the former Prime Minister of East Timor, Dr. MarĂ­ Bin Amude Alkatiri (conspiracy to murder), Tommy Soeharto (banking) and Marubeni Corporation (torts). Jonathan Streifer joined SSEK in 2002. He advises clients on corporate and business law including investment, projects, acquisitions, financings and other commercial transactions. Jonathan has a robust and growing dispute resolution practice and in the TMT sector on data privacy, content and other issues in the digital economy. He has recently advised several clients on carbon credit and plastic credit projects and other investments in the sustainable economy. Jonathan advises multinational companies, start-ups, investment funds, entrepreneurs and other companies doing business in Indonesia. Prior to joining SSEK, Jonathan worked for six years as a legal advisor to law firms in Jakarta, focusing on corporate finance including private placements and public offerings of debt and equity securities, debt restructuring, bank lending, acquisitions and other international business transactions. Michael S. Carl is voted an Indonesian External Counsel of the Year by Asian-MENA Counsel readers, who cite his wide-ranging knowledge and experience with Indonesian law. Michael S. Carl joined SSEK in 2004 and has more than 20 years of experience practicing law in Southeast Asia, principally in Indonesia. His practice is oriented toward corporate law and foreign investment, energy and mining, finance, insolvency and restructurings, mergers and acquisitions and technology. Michael is particularly well known for his work with clients on the fast-changing Indonesian regulatory environment. Michael holds law degrees from leading universities in the United States and Indonesia. He is fluent in Indonesian. Prior to joining SSEK, Michael was associated with the international law firm Baker & McKenzie in its Singapore and Bangkok offices, where he handled capital markets and investment transactions and represented Indonesian and Thai companies in US debt and equity offerings and debt restructurings. He was also previously associated with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP as part of the firm's capital markets group.

Mutiara Kasih Ramadhani joined SSEK in 2018 shortly after graduating. Her practice focuses primarily on general corporate and commercial matters, including cross-border investment and financing transactions, oil and gas law, mining, shipping, and the pharmaceutical industry. Mutiara provides transactional and advisory services to various companies, from startups to multinationals. She recently assisted in conducting legal due diligence of oil and gas and mining companies in relation to the transfer of participating interest and shares, advised a foreign investment mining company on its mandatory divestment obligation, and assisted a foreign bank on the sale of non-performing loan portfolios. She drafted a distribution agreement for a major foreign pharmaceutical company, assisted a multinational financial services company on its loan to a Singapore fintech company, and acted for a Singapore financial services company in connection with the acquisition of a company engaging in electronic money services in Indonesia. Mutiara is co-author of several publications on Indonesian company, mining and shipping law. She has also spoken at seminars on shipping and health law in Indonesia.
