During my academic career I minored in the Geography of Food and Agriculture and it is a passion of mine to merge agriculture and the built environment to create a more harmonious human presence in the world. The challenges the future holds for human civilization will require for designers to not only take account of our building's ecological impacts such as energy and water consumption, but also replacing and optimizing the land which has been occupied for the building to exist. Urban agriculture, living building systems such as green roofs and living walls and the integration of pollinator corridors into project sites are a field I have spent significant time researching and hoping to more liberally apply to projects. As I grow my understanding of performance metrics related to carbon, energy and water, I simultaneously am constantly looking for ways to promote biophilic design and resiliency in the urban fabric.
