Alana Jennings

Alana is a passionate heritage professional with a background in Architecture who believes that understanding and engaging with cultural heritage is a vital component in developing successful places and communities. She is a keen researcher and understands the importance of investigating the history, development and significance of historic places to ensure their appropriate care, ongoing management, and future potential. During her professional career she has had the opportunity to work in both private practice, education, and the public sector, assisting in the delivery of a diverse range of projects from contemporary and conservation focused architectural work to cultural heritage engagement programs and research projects. Alana is inspired by places of rich cultural diversity having travelled extensively and spent time studying and living in both Athens and the United Kingdom. She believes that the best developments communicate a well realised intersection between place and cultural values, contemporary design and functional needs, citing projects such as the WA Museum Boola Bardip and the East Fremantle Post Office as successful examples of this approach. Alana has experience across a diverse range of heritage projects including the provision of design and on site advice, involvement in conservation and adaptive reuse works, and in the preparation of Conservation Management Plans and Strategies, Heritage Impact Statements, Development Applications, Archival Records, Interpretation Plans and Strategies, Concept and Feasibility Designs, Architectural Documentation, Heritage Planning Policies and Design Guidelines. She is currently completing a Diploma of Project Management and is the WA Representative for the ICOMOS Emerging Professionals Working Group.

Alison Healey

Alison works at the threshold of turning project visions into reality, deftly navigating statutory planning and approvals at local and state level. Skilled at due diligence, master plans, scheme amendments, structure and activity centre plans, subdivisions and development applications - what really drives her is uncovering the sense of purpose in every project and a mission to support people in the community. For Alison, communities such as Bayswater - where locals are highly engaged and organised - shows just how important it is to connect people with the planning process and this was at the heart of developing the Town Centre structure plan. Her work in the health sector - including aged care, retirement living, disability services, respite and wellness - has fed her love of working with people. Alison is particularly interested in the challenges ahead for Australia's health care sector, our aging population and how the industry will respond to the growing desire to "age in place."

Amy Puletama

Amy has more than five years' experience in the heritage industry, having completed her Master of Architecture at the University of Western Australia in 2015. She joined the element team in 2019, and has been involved in a wide variety of projects, primarily for conservation work and adaptive re-use. Amy has excellent heritage and architecture capabilities and experience with Heritage Impact Statements, Conservation Management Plans and Strategies, architectural drawings and Archival Records. Amy also has an excellent knowledge of conservation practices, having been involved in the delivery of the Practical Building Conservation unit at UWA for three years.

Andrew Howe

When the state government decided to sink the rail line through Subiaco to unify the town centre and create capacity for new communities and economies - in turn bringing about Perth's first true TOD - Andrew Howe was at the forefront of designing its planning and delivery framework. This followed his earlier award-winning urban design work for the East Perth Redevelopment, and as they say, the rest is history. Today, having worked on numerous revitalisation projects - from large scale city projects to small regional towns, infrastructure-led delivery to transit oriented places, as a redevelopment and urban design expert. Andrew is a strategic thinker who brings together finely tuned technical skills and delivery experience, enabling creative ideas to land in practical execution. His depth of knowledge around commercial drivers, persistent yet practical approach, ability to think on his feet and commitment to working authentically with local communities to realise their place potential has enabled him to break new ground in areas such as developing planning controls, raising urban design standards and embedding place making principles into management of billion-dollar assets. Into the future, Andrew sees that planners and designers will need to more deliberately orientate thinking toward new drivers for commercial activity and employment generation as the internet and automation continues to shake up life as we know it.

Carmel Given

Carmel is a cultural heritage professional and highly experienced historian and writer. Her strong contextual knowledge supports a wide range of heritage work providing inspiration, understanding and new insight. She advocates for consultation with Traditional Owners in all projects, to provide a deeper understanding of our history and cultural heritage. Carmel is the Chair of element's Reconciliation Action Plan working group. Carmel has extensive experience in undertaking historical research for conservation management plans, interpretation, thematic histories, local heritage surveys and heritage assessments. She is a member of the Professional Historians Association of Australia, as well as a qualified librarian with expert skills in archival and digital research.

Carmon Shirras

Claire Willey

With a career spanning 16 years as a planner, Claire has returned to private consulting from a senior local government role. Claire has a diverse background both statutory and strategic planning in Western Australia and Victoria, working with a range of clients and projects. Claire is experienced in the preparation and management of structure plans, master plans, detailed land use studies, subdivision and development applications, scheme amendments (regional and local), policy and strategy review and the preparation of planning submissions and due diligence advice. Claire has also acted as an advocate and expert planning witness at the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) and Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) and has regularly represented clients at Council meetings, the Metro Inner North Development Assessment Panel and State Design Review Panel. Dan is a major projects specialist, well known and respected for his strategic advice and expert guidance in navigating high profile, high value developments through to approval. He has a practical, outcomes driven approach and a proven track record resolving complex development challenges, drawing from his in-depth knowledge of metropolitan and regional regulatory frameworks along with his strong government networks. Dan's work in the inner-city has included comprehensive due diligence assessments, influencing development approvals, such as balancing heritage and contemporary redevelopment at Raine Square, securing the first development approvals for commercial development at Elizabeth Quay and unlocking additional development potential via plot ratio bonuses at the iconic QV1 and Allendale Square. David Read

Flavia Kiperman

Commencing professional life as an architect and company director running her own practice in her native Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Flavia's immersion in cultural heritage gained momentum when she consulted on sites such as Valongo Wharf, Santa Cruz Fortress, Bonsucesso Church and the Sugar Loaf Mountain masterplan, today recognised as having Outstanding Universal Values by the World Heritage Centre. With a strong cross sector background, in these projects she found her true vocation. Today she shares her global perspective and commitment to heritage practice as a Principal at element where she leads the team in preparing heritage strategies, impact statements, and assessments and identifies opportunities in restoration, adaptive reuse and development planning. Flavia's work is equal parts advisory and delivery. She is creative, committed and known for her holistic approach to resolving project challenges. She sees opportunity in educating and knowledge-sharing to foster heritage appreciation. Project highlights include writing the Cossack Townsite Conservation Management Plan - a place highly constrained by climate change, preparing the Heritage Chapter for the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia, consulting on the New Museum project and a range of private homes across the state. And her work in the field has not gone unnoticed. In 2018 Flavia was appointed to represent Western Australia on the national Executive Committee of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) for a two-year term. Into the future she sees heritage playing a greater role in shaping places, and a more focused legislative framework to support heritage and change.

George Ashton

He joined element in 2013 after graduating from UWA with honours in Urban and Regional Planning. Career highlights so far comprise involvement in various complex development applications, including The Towers development at Lots 9 and 10 Elizabeth Quay, the approved QV1 redevelopment, and Finbar Group's Aurelia development in the South Perth Station Precinct. His focus areas also include the preparation and lodgement of scheme amendment requests, conducting due diligence investigations, and undertaking development assessments for a range of state government agencies. Graeme Wallace

With a detail focused and creative design approach, Graeme plays a pivotal role in concepting, visualising and testing project concepts - from due diligence to delivery.
