ST. DAVID'S SCHOOL - Key Persons
ARENDELL PARROTT (8/22) Our Varsity Boys Soccer Team travelled to Arendell Parrott Academy to take on the Patriots. The Warriors were feeling confident coming off of their strong performance against Dash United. The Warriors had a positive start with several attacking opportunites but made a costly error on defense that led to a goal by the Patriots. "It took us a while to adjust fielding with 3 new players on defense." - Coach Sewell. The Warriors gave up 2 more goals before the half and went into halftime down 3-0. The Warriors came out the second half and played much better. The Warriors controlled play, created more chances and were able to get a goal back; Landon Brestwitz scored with an assist from Fabian Fallas. "We have work to do, as we must improve our game awareness and technical abilities, best part of it all; the boys are up to the challenge." -Coach Cornéjo
ARENDELL PARROTT (8/17) Our JV Volleyball Team played big rival Arendell Parrott in Lockerbie Gym on August 17 th. It was the first game of the season for this team, and they came ready to play! While the team lost, both sets were close (27-25 and 25-23). The entire team had a consistent serving and hitting game with standouts M.E. Martin, L. Graham, E.K. Woody and M.E. Borges. Coach Lamb and Coach Eastmann were pleased with the team's performance and know that their team will continue to improve throughout the season. They look forward to their next game at North Raleigh Christian on August 22 nd.
Cary Christian (8/22) - The Warriors took on a more experienced team in Cary Christian. The Warriors were looking to build upon some good points they had displayed in their opening contest and things they had worked on at practice. The experience of the Knights proved to be too much on this day. "We have 13 new players this season, 8 of which are 6 th graders. We just haven't had enough time to gel as a team or get to know one another." - Coach Walston

Coach Lena Olsen said their "St. David's middle school cross country runners proudly ended the season with huge improvements all around. Every runner decreased their mile time from the beginning of the season to the end; many dropping over 2 minutes minutes! These runners began the season running two laps around St. David's campus as their main workout. They finished the season with the ability to run 6-7 laps around the campus. By the end of the season, these students had grown in so many ways. They pushed themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually all season and have seen tremendous results that they should be so proud of. It has been a privledge be a coach for such a enthusiastic, determined, and fun group of runners. We are all looking forward to next year! Go Warriors!!"

GRACE CHRISTIAN OF SANDFORD (8/22) Our Varsity Girls Golf Team opened their season against Grace Christian of Sandford at the Quail Ridge Country Club. Mackenzie Cline was our lone player on a course she had never played before and on a very hot afternoon. The course was in great condition! Mackenzie shot a 1 over par 37 to be the Match Medalist of the day among 15 other players. She started with a double bogey on her first hole, and then eagled the next hole, reaching a par 5 in 2 shots and making a 10 foot putt for eagle, to get back to even par through 2 holes. She had a very steady round after that. Mackenzie finished as the medalist for this event.

Student writer Kaishun Sato-Choi adds, "we ran strong at the meet and, even with the sweltering temperatures lately, we did not give up. All of us runners were able to finish the race, even with the rough practice conditions we had in the previous week. Our runners placed third and improved their score by double since our last meet. We are looking to improve our progress even more on September 7 th."
The St. David's Warriors hosted Greenbrier Christian Academy on August 27 th at home in front of a supportive crowd for their first game of the season. The boys got off to a slow start where it seemed first game jitters and nerves really showed early but they soon overcame this lack luster start and started to unify - especially as special teams and defense put some real pressure on important plays. The offense started rolling and Senior Nolan Homeister and Senior Clay Matthews really stepped up their game to provide some momentum shift. Seniors Henry Koon and Hart Miles showed real poise in their leadership of the defense after the nerves wore off and the great effort by Freshman Christian Shaw was an important contribution to the team. Coach Young was proud of his team's perseverance. "We overcame a slow start, some mental mistakes and injuries to pull out this exciting win", he said. The win against the Gators was a strong victory but there are of course next games to keep their eyes on. "While we are happy about getting this win", Coach said, "there is opportunity for improvement, and we will continue working hard in practice to improve each week." The Warriors play at home again next week against Rocky Mount at 7pm. Come give our team the best support yet!

Middle School boys soccer took on Friendship Christian this week and came home with a Warrior Win! The team played crisp and tough soccer on a very hot day to notch their first home win of the season. Solid play came from across the board but standout athletes included Reilly Crosby with 2 goals, Oren Cline with 1 goal and Carson Riddick with an impressive goal whose corner kick curled into the side of the net to score. Carson and Nicholas Casas centered a strong defensive effort while Nelson Marshall's aggressive midfield play was fun to watch. "The boys played much more patient defending the entire field", said Coach Walston, "which was the focus of our Monday practice as well as controlled possession." Carrying those skills from practice to the game helped them post a 4-2 win.
Dash United (9/5) - The MS Boys Soccer Team hosted Dash United on Tuesday, Sept. 5 th. The Warriors were looking to improve upon their previous outings and continue to build upon the things they did well. The Warriors have been working hard at practice and are coming together as a team. The first 2 Warrior goals showed how the players are gaining more confidence and trusting each other more. For the first Warrior goal, George Cram took the ball to the corner and crossed it to Liles Knight in the middle who one-timed it into the goal. Jackson Mauney played a beautiful corner kick to George Cram who placed a great header into the back of the net to score the Warriors second goal. The Warriors pulled off the 3-2 win!

After being on hiatus, our Varsity Football Team took to the gridiron in their season opener on Friday, Sept. 1st. From the opening kick-off, which was booted out of the back of the endzone by Fletcher Steele (Senior), it was a great Friday evening for the Warriors! The Warriors scored on their first offensive play of the season, a 25-yard dash by Jamir Smoakes (Sophomore), and he wasn't done yet. While J. Smoakes would only touch the ball 2 more times throughout the game, each touch was for a rushing touchdown, 24 yards, and 55 yards. Parker Tolin tacked on a 23-yard run and carried the ball 5 times to keep the ground attack churning. Next on the scoreboard was Luke Deihl (Sophomore) with a 38-yard punt return for a touchdown, followed up shortly after with a 7-yard touchdown run giving him 2 touchdowns on the night. The scoring continued with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Davis Crowder (Senior) to Hutch Marshall (Junior) and touchdown runs by Jake Stickney (Junior.) and F. Steele, 45 yards and 15 yards respectively, to close out the game in the 2 nd half. This offensive performance was made possible by our stout offensive line Jack Fletcher (Senior), Davis Webb (Senior), Luke Fletcher (Sophomore), and Connor Crenshaw (Sophomore).
