Ali Khan

In July 2023, Ali Khan was appointed to lead UniCredit's digital transformation efforts as Group Digital & Information Officer. Ali is a senior technology executive who joined the bank from PwC's Cloud Innovation & Engineering practice, which he led as Senior Partner for several years. Across his previous roles at PwC and EY, he has accumulated deep experience of working with major international banks - including HSBC, Citi and UniCredit itself - having led the framing of the cloud strategy and corresponding execution for multiple boards of some of the largest banks in the US and Europe. As part of this, he has successfully designed, built and led some of the largest migrations in financial services from hosted and mainframe portfolios to public and private clouds across Microsoft, Google and Amazon. Beyond complex transformations, Ali also has deep functional expertise in banking, having designed and built core banking systems, credit card platforms, regulatory, risk and compliance solutions, mortgage and lending systems, global and regional payment rails, and finance and regulatory reporting systems. He is also experienced in working with bank regulators in both Europe and the US, managing IT risk portfolios from multiple perspectives, including governance, operating model, change management, geography, cyber, data and cloud, as well as business continuity and recovery planning. Motivated by the acquisition of knowledge in all forms and stimulated by science and the advancement of technology, he holds degrees from University of London, Purdue University, Carnegie Mellon University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Andrea Orcel began his career in 1987 at Midland Montagu in Fixed Income. In 1988 he moved to Goldman Sachs and in 1990 he joined The Boston Consulting Group. From 1992 to 2012, Andrea worked for Merrill Lynch (then Bank of America), with a number of senior positions: Executive Chairman of the Investment Bank and President of Emerging Markets ex Asia (2009), President of International Global Banking, Securities & Wealth Management; Head of International Corporate and Investment Banking (2009), Head of Global Origination, President of EMEA Global Markets & Investment Banking and member of Merrill Lynch Management Committee (2007), Head of Origination and Co-President of Global Markets and Investment Banking for Europe, Middle East & Africa (2004), Head of Global Financial Institutions Group (2003), Co-Head of Financial Institutions Group for Europe, Middle East & Africa (1999). In 2012, Andrea joined UBS as a Member of the Group Executive Board and then President, Investment Bank; then CEO, UBS Limited and UBS AG London Branch (2014); Member of the Board of UBS Americas Holding LLC, senior contact for US industry regulators and Senior Officer Outside of Australia and senior contact for Australia industry regulators (2016). He was also a Member of the Board of UBS Optimus Foundation, Senior Sponsor and Leader for Diversity and Talent Development in the Investment Bank and the UK. On 15th April 2021, Andrea Orcel was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of UniCredit. On 6th July 2022, Andrea Orcel is appointed Head of Italy in addition to his role as Group Chief Executive Officer.

Fiona started her career at the Bank of England in Banking Supervision in 1992. She moved into European bank equity research at NatWest Markets (became Bankers Trust and then Deutsche Bank) where she worked from 1994-1999. She moved to Morgan Stanley in 2000 and then Lehman for three years until 2003 where she covered German, Nordic and Swiss banks. She then joined Execution Noble, where she built the European banks research product, and was also co-head of equity research until 2011. Fiona then led the development of a new bank equity research team and covered Global Investment and Private Banks at RBC Capital Markets from 2011-2017. Fiona joined UBS in 2017 as Global Head of Strategy for the Investment Bank. In 2019 she moved to Grupo Santander in Strategy & Corporate Development. More recently she has worked at Bankers without Boundaries, a social enterprise that mobilises private capital to invest in projects that benefit the environment, nature and social good. In May 2021, Fiona is appointed Head of Group Strategy & Optimisation. In February 2022, Fiona is appointed Head of Strategy and ESG.

Gianfranco started his career in the Italian UniCredit network in the mid-1980s, moving shortly thereafter to the Chicago office and then to New York, where he took over as Branch Deputy Chief Manager, responsible for all the Representative Offices in North and South America. In 2001 he transferred to Asia, where he was responsible for Corporate Banking Asia Pacific & Chief Manager of the Hong Kong branch. In 2010 he was appointed Head of Corporate & Investment banking and Private Banking at UniCredit Tiriac Bank Romania. From 2011 to 2015, he served as Head of Corporate & Investment banking CEE and as Deputy Head of the CEE Division. Gianfranco was Co-Head of the CIB Division from September 2016, after having been Deputy Head since April 2015. In March 2019 he was appointed Co-CEO of Commercial Banking, Central Eastern Europe, whilst retaining shared oversight of the CIB division, along with the Co-CEO of Commercial Banking, Western Europe. In May 2021, Gianfranco is confirmed as Head of Central Europe, with direct responsibility for Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia, Hungary, and Slovenia, and joint responsibility for Russia. From June to October 2022, Gianfranco is appointed Group Chief Operating Officer (Ad Interim) in addition to his role as Head of Central Europe. In July 2023, Gianfranco is appointed Group Chief Operating Officer.
