BIOSEPARATIONS

The Bioseparations Lab provides an interdisciplinary environment for conducting cutting-edge and transformative research in bioprocess engineering with an emphasis in recombinant protein recovery from plant and microalgal systems. The goal of the Bioseparations Lab is to develop novel and effective strategies for extraction and purification of recombinant and native biomolecules by understanding constraints posed by the biological system and the products. Research projects with our academic and corporate collaborators are geared toward developing cost-effective processes for recovery of industrial and biopharmaceutical products derived from a variety of native and transgenic sources such as corn, rice, sugarcane, Lemna minor, and microalgae.
