Dr. Baker practiced general surgery from 1982 to 1991. He was board-certified by the American Board of Surgery from 1982 through 2002. His clinical experiences have encompassed primary care, emergency room medicine, and critical care surgery. As a general surgeon, he managed multiple cases of life threatening chest and abdominal trauma from motor vehicle collisions, industrial accidents, and gun violence. This included both blunt and penetrating injuries. As a general surgeon, Dr. Baker was the doctor other physicians turned to for training as he developed protocols for severely injured patients and written curricula for acute-care teaching hospitals. In 1989 and 1990 while practicing general surgery at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, AL, he was the first to introduce laparoscopic cholecystectomy - a minimally invasive surgery for removing the gallbladder. During this time, general surgeons came to Montgomery for one-on-one preceptorships to learn this new technology from Dr. Baker. Additionally, he chaired the department of surgery at Jackson hospital from 1989 to 1991. Since 1996, Dr. Baker has been board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon. As the solo business owner of a successful plastic and reconstructive surgery practice since 1999, he has had across the board experience in reconstructive surgeries for patients who suffered severe facial trauma, complex injuries to the hands and lower extremities as well as countless breast and skin cancer reconstruction surgeries. He has participated in several investigations for government regulators serving as a principle investigator for the FDA in multiple clinical studies regarding medical implant devices. Additionally, he has performed investigative work for private corporations. His experiences in these areas have given him vast knowledge of the products and procedures used in many fields of medicine and surgery.
