Christian Godfrey

Christian has over 30 years' experience working across the construction industry, including 12 years for BES. Initially employed as a Construction Manager, Christian has overseen many of our most successful projects, ranging from High Grade Sterile Suites and QC laboratories to validated warehouses, which alongside his drive and commitment made his promotion to the role of Operations Manager an easy decision. As Operations Manager, Christian now provides leadership to our team of Site Managers and Supervisors, ensuring high standards of quality and safety are maintained, as well driving efficiency's and standardisation across all of our sites. As well as supporting his team Christian is also closely involved in our initial site set up, logistics planning, chairs all of our constructability reviews and also works closely with our SHEQ team to help maintain our Quality and Safety systems. Our project delivery is strengthened by Christian's combination of practical hands on knowledge and formal SHE and GMP training and our Clients are reassured by his presence and input.

Craig Chatburn

Craig has over 20 years' experience within the construction industry across a wide range of sectors, including Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Education and Data Centres. Prior to his current role at BES, he was the lead contact of a multi-disciplinary team working on a variety of pharmaceutical and data centre projects, with an emphasis on project design, including feasibility, through concept to detailed design and onto construction, overseeing new and existing developments to project completion; including becoming the lead contact with several client partnership frameworks. He now brings this wealth of expertise and experience to BES and our clients. As Principal Electrical Engineer Craig takes overall responsibly for all electrical work, from initial concept and design through to beneficial use. He works closely with our design and construction teams to ensure a seamless integration of the electrical systems into the specialist building services installations. Importantly during construction, Craig ensures that we employ the safest electrical practices following BES trusted developed procedures.

Gary Horrocks

Gary has over 35 years' experience within the Building services industry, 25 years of which has been primarily involved within the Pharmaceutical market. During this time, he has managed a number of complex design & build projects before more recently transferring his expertise into Bid Management & Sales. Gary leads our in-house multidisciplinary bid team to prepare accurate budgets and high quality tender proposals. In his role, Gary is responsible for managing our bid processes, overseeing all quality, technical and commercial aspects in accordance with company procedures. With his wealth of engineering knowledge, coupled with excellent communication skills, Gary is able to quickly assess the most complex projects, assuring our Clients from the outset, their requirements are clearly understood. Having developed a network of contacts throughout the industry and their associated professional organisations, such as the ISPE & iChemE, Gary is a well-known and popular figure within the industry.

Gavin Statham

Gavin has over 30 years' experience working within construction and building services on a wide range of projects specialising in Healthcare and complex building engineering solutions. As Southern Regional Director at BES he works closely with our multidisciplinary design teams and clients to ensure effective delivery of large scale, complex and fast track projects. With extensive experience in providing design and construction services throughout a project, from the very beginning right through to operation, Gavin is able to support the delivery of successful projects that go beyond our clients' expectations. He has a strong technical background in the Healthcare and Pharmaceutical sectors, giving him the in-depth knowledge of the complex processes involved and the insight to best support our teams and clients in achieving the best results. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineers and an Associate with the Association for Project Management.

Graham Drew - CTO

Graham has over 30 years' experience within the industry with more than half of this time with BES. Throughout his career, Graham has specialized in the Healthcare and Pharmaceutical sectors. During this time he has delivered numerous challenging projects, ranging in complexity from validated warehouses to QC laboratories to sterile production suites, with values up to £50m. With relevant training in all areas including Design, management, SHE, Validation and GMP Graham can provide Client support and internal direction in all aspects of a project. In his role, Graham provides leadership to project teams which encompass designers, project controls and Construction management teams while ensuring that the Client is fully engaged throughout the life of the project. Developing excellent working relationships with the Client and his team is a primary focus, and coupling this with an excellent delivery record has been a key success factor in securing new projects and maintaining existing Clients, resulting in high levels of repeat business.

Jonathan Morton

Jonathan has extensive experience within the Pharmaceutical and Life Science sectors, working with many of the UK's Blue Chip Clients. Graduating from UClan in 1996, Jonathan has over 30 years' experience, 15 of which have been at BES. As Engineering Director Jonathan works closely with our in house multi-disciplinary design team, construction team and clients. Jonathan provides guidance and leadership in all aspects of programme, design, technical and commercial issues whatever the scale of the project. Having built a number of long term, lasting relationships with a number of our clients, he ensures that they get the best solutions in design, value, quality and safety for their projects. With relevant training in all areas including design, management, SHE, validation and GMP. Jonathan can provide client support and internal direction in all aspects of a project.

Michaela Radford

Michaela has over 10 years experience in the construction industry and extensive knowledge of working with large national contractors where she has provided assistance on all Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) related matters. During her time with BES, Michaela has managed the transition to the ISO9001 and ISO45001 standards, including implementation of all improvements and training on new processes and procedures. As an IRCA Certified Lead Auditor Michaela has both the knowledge and experience to manage and develop our integrated SHEQ system. Michaela communicates her in depth knowledge across the business, ensuring compliance throughout our offices and sites; whilst helping BES meet their strategic SHEQ objectives. Focused on ‘Exceeding Expectations', is evident in Michaela's drive for continual improvement, she works closely with both the Client and the BES team to help our projects run smoothly and effectively.

Paul Marsh - COO

Spanning a 30 year career in the construction industry, Paul has been instrumental over the past 20 years in developing BES to become one of the leading providers to the pharmaceutical and life science sectors. One of the company's original founding team, Paul's remit includes enhancing our organisational resilience and world class project delivery, along with ensuring the consistency of our services. Paul's background is originally in HVAC design, gaining a Hons degree at UMIST before moving into Project Management. Now adopting a pragmatic leadership style, Paul guides those around him to manage great projects and provide outstanding Client satisfaction, built on relationships and collaborative ways of working.

Paul Wilde

A Chartered Engineer, Paul has over 40 years' experience working in the Building Services Engineering & Construction Industry. Paul has spent the last 20 years specialising in the delivery of Major Capital Projects associated with the pharmaceutical industry with more than 10 years at BES. He is dedicated to providing an excellent service to our Clients, working on the most prestigious and complex projects within the sector. With a proven track record managing highly successful projects he has fulfilled Design and Project Management roles on the most sophisticated facilities from high grade laboratories to the most complex aseptic production facilities. Paul provides leadership and expertise across all disciplines during all project phases, managing design, procurement, planning and commissioning teams from the earliest concept phases through detailed design, to construction completion and qualification support. With a wealth of pharmaceutical experience, Paul takes great pride in providing innovative solutions to Clients' requirements to a quality of installation and service that is second to none.

Rachel Jarman-Smith

Rachel is an experienced techno-commercial professional with insight into the Life Science ecosystem and international sales experience in the UK, EU, Israel & Scandinavian bio/pharmaceutical territories. She earned a BSc (Hons) in Genetics from Queen Mary & Westfield College, University of London. She subsequently specialised in Biochemical engineering with a Master's at University College London and a PhD at the University of Birmingham/GlaxoSmithKline (a global biopharma). Rachel voluntarily serves on the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) Northwest UK Affiliate and has previously contributed to the European Society for Animal Cell Technology (ESACT) UK committee. Her professional journey includes hands-on R&D and bioprocess manufacturing experience at GSK/University of Birmingham, the Institute of Molecular Medicine (University of Oxford) and LONZA (a biopharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing company). She has also held the position of EU Technical Manager at JRH Biosciences, contributing to the development, manufacturing, and marketing of cell culture reagents & services for biopharmaceutical firms. She has an entrepreneurial drive and has been an independent business owner. In addition, Rachel has worked in bio/pharmaceutical commercial roles at BIOQUELL (bio-decontamination systems and services), BASi (bioanalytical instrumentation and analytical contract research services), and Rockwell Automation (a digital transformation and industrial automation company).

Sean Ferguson

Sean joined BES as a 17 year old apprentice back in 2006 and has risen through the ranks to senior roles within the business, being appointed as Project Director in July 2022. Sean epitomises all that is good about BES and the pivotal role he has been playing in delivery of many complex and challenging projects has demonstrated his leadership and management skills.

Steve Marsh - Chairman, Founder, Managing Director

As a founder of the company Steve takes enormous pride in the successful development of the business. His hands on approach and attention to detail set the company on the right path and the business has grown from strength to strength under his leadership. Graduating from UClan in 1992 Steve is a Building Services Engineer by training but with over 30 years' experience in the design and construction of cleanrooms and laboratories he has a strong technical knowledge of the pharmaceutical and life science market. Steve has a clear vision for the business which is based on ‘adding value' and exceeding clients' expectations. This vision is underpinned by the culture he has built, which is based on teamwork, collaboration and a ‘can do' mentality. Steve recognises that the strength of the business comes from the people we employ and is committed to the training and development of our team. Having joined the industry as a 16 year old school leaver himself, Steve takes great pride in the development of our own apprentices, watching their progression and growing impact on the business.

Vanessa Weaver

As Business Support Manager, Vanessa has wide range of responsibilities including the efficient running of the office as a whole. Vanessa has driven business improvement throughout the organisation and has introduced numerous improvement initiatives, which have helped us deliver a more efficient service to our customers. She joined as part of the start-up team in 2002 and has grown with the business to become an essential part of the company and a key member of the senior team. Vanessa's development can be measured in a number of areas, not least in the management accounts, which she prepares meticulously and in a timely manner each month.

Zeb Ahmed - CEO

Zeb joined BES as CEO in 2022, taking on day-to-day responsibility for running the company and its strategic development, whilst continuing BES's spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship. A Chartered European Process Engineer and Oxford University Alumnus, with triple fellowship of the Institute of Chemical Engineers, Energy Institute, and Institute of Directors, Zeb has over 25 years' experience in the specialist life sciences market and previously worked with several of BES's leadership team in the 1990s. Zeb is a great leader, focused on developing talent and nurturing the culture of pragmatism and collaboration that has always been at the heart of our company.
