The Birmingham Alumni Chapter of the Alcorn State University National Alumni Association was re-chartered in April, 1994. Charter members were Lemore Allen, I, Lemore Allen, II, Emma Allen, Genett Campbell and Lay Lindsey. Since its re-chartering, the chapter has worked tirelessly to support the mission of the Alcorn State University National Alumni Association and to encourage students to strive for academic excellence. Some of the chapter's early activities included hosting tailgate parties when the Alcorn Braves took on the Samford University Bulldogs, the Alabama State Hornets and the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. The chapter also hosted a welcome reception for Alcornites when the first SWAC Championship Football Game was held in Birmingham in 1999. In June 2005, the chapter held its first Annual Scholarship Banquet, where we honored distinguished Alcornites in the Birmingham area and awarded scholarships to students planning to attend Alcorn in the fall of that year.
