Dr Joanna Nurse

As a Strategic Advisor to the InterAction Council, Joanna is advancing a collaborative partnership on ‘One Health for People and Planet'. This builds upon her former role as Head of Health and Education for the Commonwealth, providing strategic leadership to Ministers across 52 countries, strengthening national systems and capacity for the Education and Health Sectors to enhance security and sustainable development. From 2005- 2014, Joanna worked for the UK Government, and during this time, as national lead for Public Mental Health and Well-Being, developed multi-sector policies across the life-course, to promote wider well-being. From 2010, Joanna worked for the WHO, strengthening capacity on national climate change assessments and strategies in Central Asia; this built upon her earlier national responsibility for heatwave and cold weather planning. Joanna then led on the implementation of the European Action Plan for Public Health, creating partnerships to strengthen public health systems across 53 countries; this was further developed into the World Federation of Public Health Associations ‘Charter for the Public's Health' and Implementation tool. Over her career, Joanna has gained experience at local, regional, national and international levels, on addressing inequalities and tackling the social and environmental determinants of health. Across her career, Joanna has gained community based experience working in India, Mexico, Central America and Europe, and in 2003 worked with the WHO in Geneva on gender and violence prevention. Initially qualifying as a medical doctor and training in Primary Health Care, before specialising in Public Health and more latterly, receiving a PhD on Policy.

Professor James Batchelor is the Professorial Fellow of Clinical Informatics and Healthcare Innovation at the University of Southampton. He is also the Director of the Clinical Informatics Research Unit and the EDGE Programme, which is a collaborative group of NHS hospitals and research organisations working together to support and improve the Research and Development process through the development of the EDGE Software. James is also a Committee member and advisor to the Republic of Ireland e-Health Programme as well as being involved in the development of clinical research standards, Genomics and Integrated BioMedical Informatics Platforms. James has worked in this area of research for over 19 years and is well-known within the research community, both in the United Kingdom and overseas.

Professor Stockman has an extensive career in Telecoms, has served on several Boards, served as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the British Telecom (BT) Group, Chief Scientist for he BT group and Programme Director for major Digital programmes. He has also served on the Boards of Cegetel and BT Mahindra (now TechMahindra). Over the past 10 years he has worked on the Transformational Impact Digital Technology has on Business Models (often referred to as Smart Business Models). Areas addressed have included Media, Health, Retail, Cities and Academia. Professor Stockman is also Chair of the Connected Health Innovation Centre at Ulster University, Honorary Consul for New Zealand and acts as an advisor for a number of community projects.

Prof. Vajira H. W. Dissanayake - Chairman

Prof. Dissanayake is the Chair Professor of Anatomy Genetics and Biomedical Informatics at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He was one of the founders of the Health Informatics Society of Sri Lanka (HISSL) in 1998 and its President since 2009. He founded the Biomedical and Health Informatics Programme in the University of Colombo in 2008. This programme offers a MSc in Biomedical Informatics and a MD in Health Informatics leading to specialist board citification in Health Informatics making Sri Lanka the only country in the world to recognise Health Informatics as a medical specialization. As of April 2018 the programme had produced 127 MSc graduates. There are 61 MSc and 39 MD students in training. In 2016 he founded the Commonwealth Digital Health Initiative as the flagship project of his Presidency of the Commonwealth Medical Association that resulted in the establishment of the Commonwealth Centre for Digital Health in London in 2018. He is a Working Council Member of the Asia eHealth Information Network, the President Elect of the Asia Pacific Association for Medical Informatics, HISSL's representative to the International Medical Informatics Association and a member of the Guidelines Development Group for Digital Health of the World Health Organization. Professor Dissanayake was elected a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka in 2013.
