Aidan O'Driscoll

Job Titles:

Aidan has spent the last twenty five years in the technology sector both in an executive and consultancy role. In 2012 he was one of the founders of the Irrus Investments Syndicate Group who have gone on to make several investments in the Life Sciences and Technology sectors. He has spent the last number of years working as an independent consultant working with companies in setting and implementing their strategic direction in the area of sales, marketing, finance and strategic management. His experience includes financial controller at Intepro Systems -transforming an engineering-led company into the world's number one supplier of power supply AT instrumentation, software and turnkey systems. In 1991 he successfully negotiated the sale of the organisation to Shaffner, giving the VC investors a return in excess of 12% per annum. He spent 4 years with Avocent International as VP Sales EMEA from 1999 to 2002 where he expanded and grew the sales organisation to $35m annual turnover.

Aisling Connolly

Job Titles:

Aisling joined the OrthoXel team in March 2024 and has 14 years experience working in the Medical Device Sector in various Quality roles. Her role as Quality Manager is to support the Management Team and ensure that all aspects of the Quality Management System are compliant, effective and operating in an efficient manner. In particular, Aisling is responsible for Supplier Management, Incoming Inspection of Product, Calibration, leading NCP, MRB and CAPA activities as required, and supporting the Engineering Team in design and validation reviews. Aisling is looking forward to contributing to the continued success of OrthoXel and shares the company's committed approach to product efficiency, quality and patient safety.

Casey Smith

Job Titles:

Casey commenced her internship with OrthoXel in January 2024. She is currently in her 3rd year, pursuing a degree in Product Design and Technology at the University of Limerick. As an Engineering Intern, she will work with the Engineering team at OrthoXel and assist in the development of projects while gaining invaluable insights and hands-on experience from colleagues. She is particularly keen to strengthen her proficiency in digital programmes such as 3D modelling, CAD software and graphic design software.

Charles Daly - CTO, Founder

Charles is responsible for OrthoXel's Technology development program. He leads the technical team, setting direction for new product development and product portfolio expansion in line with company commercial objectives. He coordinates the on-going clinical use of OrthoXel's regulatory approved products and engages with surgeons on new technology development opportunities. Charles has extensive engineering experience in the medical device industry and has worked in R&D, Product and Process development, New Product Introduction and Operations in program and functional management positions for companies such as De Puy, Boston Scientific, Cochlear and ABK Biomedical where he worked as product Development Manager

Gerry McDonnell - Chairman

Gerry is currently CEO of the LEDP and holds a number of other board positions. Prior to the LEDP Gerry worked in senior executive roles across the Medical device, Telecoms, PC and Energy Industries with companies such as Bord Na Mona (COO), DJO Global (COO), Stryker (VP Ireland), Apple, Nortel and AST/Samsung. Gerry initially qualified as a Toolmaker with Mincon and studied Industrial Engineering. He also holds a Masters Degree in change management through Trinity College Dublin. He has had a number of his own companies and has also studied for a small period of time at Harvard University.

Greg West

Greg West joined OrthoXel in January 2023 as our new U.S. Director of Clinical Training. Greg grew up in the US "Heartland" in the state of Iowa. He initially trained and worked in the Chicago area as an Orthopaedic Physicians' Assistant for seven years before returning to studies in 1995, completing an additional degree in Business Management. He followed this with a number of sales roles with DonJoy, Wright Medical and Acumed before transitioning to clinical specialist roles at Acumed and Integra LifeSciences. Greg brings a wealth of knowledge in orthopaedics as well as first-hand experience working in surgery. He is excited to share his passion for the industry in his new role at OrthoXel. Greg will be responsible for training our distributors' sales reps, orthopaedic surgeons and theatre nurses to ensure optimal performance. Greg works closely with our Engineering and Quality Teams in Cork on the development and continual improvement of our product portfolio.

Hannah Dailey - Founder

Hannah is based in the US as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. As an experienced research engineer with expertise in fracture fixation and musculoskeletal biomechanics, Hannah co-founded OrthoXel and has been a key member of the development team for the tibial nail since its inception. Hannah's previous research activities have been in the areas of fracture fixation, musculoskeletal biomechanics, microfluidics, respiratory mechanics, cell and tissue mechanics, and computational modelling

James Harty - Founder

Professor James Harty, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, began his involvement with the team having seen first hand the current challenges in tibial nailing. His contributions have included co-authoring the body of peer-reviewed literature on the background technology and carrying out the cadaver and preclinical surgical procedures. James has been a practicing orthopaedic surgeon for over 17 years and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. James currently serves as Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at Cork University Hospital and on the faculty of the Department of Surgery in University College Cork. James has also served on the board of the Irish Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery (IITOS).

Jamie Russell

Jamie joined us in OrthoXel in 2022, as our Design Engineer. His work at OrthoXel is to assist in the design and development of present and future products, with a particular focus on CAD and engineering, as well as contributing and assisting with different aspects and needs of the company. Jamie graduated from the University of Limerick in 2018 with a BSc. in Product Design and Technology. Agriculture, Precision Engineering, and Industrial Design & Manufacturing are among his areas of expertise.

Mark Moynihan

Job Titles:

  • Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs Director
As QA/RA Director, Mark ensures that the Quality Management System is established, implemented and maintained in accordance with ISO 13485, MDR 2017/745, 21 CFR 820 and any other global QMS requirements that may be required. He also acts as the Person Responsible for Regulatory Compliance per Article 15 of MDR 2017/745 and is responsible for planning and executing global regulatory strategies necessary to obtain and maintain regulatory approvals for new and modified OrthoXel products. Mark joined the team in 2019 having previously been QA/RA Manager of another medical device start-up. He is a graduate of University College Cork with an MSc in Bioinformatics with Systems Biology and a BSc in Microbiology. He also holds various other specialist qualifications such as Medical Device Science (Specialist Diploma, NUIG), Leadership & Management (Professional Diploma, UCD), Project Management (CAPM, PMI) and Lean Six Sigma & Quality Systems (Cert, CTC/ILM) in addition to training in numerous short courses relevant to Medical Device QA/RA (MDR 2017/745, Auditing, Biological Evaluation, etc.).

Michael Murphy

Michael is a business leader, entrepreneur, distributor, and surgical sales professional with decades of experience providing innovative solutions to physicians, hospitals, and surgery centres which advance the quality, affordability, and accessibility of surgical orthopaedic care. Michael has held sales positions with industry leading companies including DePuy-Synthes and Wright Medical. He has earned a reputation for excellence with orthopaedic surgeons, OR staff, hospital and surgery centre leadership, and is a consummate professional. As U.S. Business Development & Sales Manager, Michael is responsible for achieving our commercial objectives in the U.S. marketplace, promoting our revolutionary fracture fixation technology to orthopaedic surgeons. Michael is responsible for recruiting talented distributors and sales professionals and supporting their efforts at promoting our products to Key Opinion Leaders. Michael will work with talented individuals within the industry promoting strategic partnerships, product strategy/development, distribution, and progress toward the goal of OrthoXel contributing substantial advancements to the quality of orthopaedic care, while strengthening the relationships between patients, providers, and the healthcare facilities they trust.

Pat O'Connor - CEO, Founder

As CEO Pat's responsibilities include working with the management team to set direction for the company, development of the commercialization strategy and engagement with third party business development, sales and marketing executives to execute commercial objectives, contract negotiations, legal, fund raising and investor relations. Previously, Pat worked in Operations, Vendor Management, Multi Site Program & Functional Management, Product Development and Business Development in medical device companies such as Boston Scientific, Stryker, Sherwood Medical and ABK Biomedical where he was CEO prior to co-founding OrthoXel.

Richie Gough

Richie's role crosses the divide from surgeon needs to engineering design. He is responsible for conversing with key opinion leaders, conducting industry research that leads to planning and interpreting those findings into appropriately scoped projects from the development phases to regulatory submission. Richie has 11 years of medical device experience in leading vascular and orthopaedic multinationals and has also worked in the automotive and aerospace sectors. He also recently graduated from a part time Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Cork Institute of Technology (CIT).

Sorcha Dineen

Job Titles:
  • Digital Marketing Associate
As Digital Marketing Associate, Sorcha is primarily working with the Commercial Team adding to OrthoXel's digital marketing content. She is responsible for supporting the Sales & Marketing manager with enhancing brand visibility and engagement further expanding the brand within the US market. She will also be involved in social media, website optimisation and market research. Sorcha comes to us with a diverse background, originally qualifying as a nurse before pursuing a MSc in Management & Marketing in 2020 and a Digital Marketing Course at MTU in 2023. She has several years working within the Retail and Recruitment sectors before pursuing her true passion within the Digital Marketing space. Sorcha is looking forward to gaining invaluable experience with OrthoXel and the Medical Device industry.

Thomas Twomey

As Sales & Marketing Manager, Thomas works closely with our US based Sales Team on the continual expansion of the business. He is responsible for ensuring our customers have the knowledge and materials required to successfully utilise our products. He also supports the Engineering Team in Cork on the continual development of new products within our portfolio. Thomas has a BSc in Sports & Exercise Science (UL) and MSc in Sports & Exercise Biomechanics (Roehampton University). He has worked for several companies within the medical device industry, focusing on biomechanical product manufacture and prescription. He has vast experience training customers on the use of medical devices, both in private and public health sectors across Ireland, the UK and Australia.

Tricia Doyle

Job Titles:
  • Senior Operations and Inventory Controller
As Senior Operations & Inventory Controller, Tricia supports all functions within OrthoXel, as well as reviewing and identifying areas for improvement from the company operations perspective. She is responsible for the stock control and inventory management required in accordance with ISO 13485, 21 CFR 820 and any other global Quality Management System requirements. Tricia also assists in the compliance of other Quality System aspects such as training, calibration, preventative maintenance, CAPA and NCP. From University College Cork, she received a MBS in Business Information Systems & a HDip in Accounting & Corporate Finance and attained a BEng Computer Engineering Degree from Trinity College Dublin. Tricia has previously worked in start-ups and multinational companies and is passionate about maximising business performance.
