SZEKELY LAW - Key Persons
As one of his main practice areas, the practice of immigration law was a natural choice for Zsolt Szekely, as he also went through the immigration process by immigrating into Canada.
Zsolt has a Civil Law degree from Romania and in addition, in 2011 he obtained an LL.M - Master of U.S. Law, from the Florida Coastal School of Law. Soon after, Zsolt obtained a Certificate of Qualification from the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, completed his articling period at a downtown law firm in Edmonton and, since 2015 he has been a practicing lawyer in Alberta, being a member of the Law Society of Alberta, as well as the Canadian Bar Association.
Zsolt was born in Sfantu Gheorghe (Sepsiszentgyorgy), Romania. When asked what had been instrumental in attracting him to practice law, he said that, as a teenager, he had been greatly influenced by a judge and a lawyer, both family friends. Having gotten a taste of it, he then later decided to pursue it as a career. He obtained a civil law degree from George Baritiu Law School in 2000 and, a year later, passed the state licensing exam in Romania obtaining a License Diploma. He also had a former practice there that included Business and Corporate/Commercial law, and to some extent, Administrative law.
In Canada, initially working as a legal assistant/paralegal, he has been involved with Canadian immigration law, first in Kitchener, Ontario then, since 2007, in Edmonton, Alberta.
Zsolt is married and he says that starting a new life in a foreign country is a challenge for anyone and credits his wife and their two children for supporting him in every possible way.
His personal interests and hobbies include music, swimming, soccer, international business and estate law, as well as, history. He has been a member of the Hungarian Cultural Society of Edmonton since his arrival to Edmonton in 2007 and, as of 2014 he is the President of the Szekely-Magyar Cultural Association of Western Canada.
In addition to practicing the common law of Canada, Zsolt is conversant with many aspects of the civil law of Romania and with certain legal issues regarding European Union member states.
Zsolt speaks English, Hungarian and Romanian and can assist clients on any of these languages.
