Alex Horvath - CHRO, SVP

Alex Horvath, senior vice president and chief human resources officer for TMC Health, has an extensive background in health care-related human resources. In his role, Horvath supports the strategic direction of the organization, particularly in acquisition of talent, leadership growth and organizational performance. Prior to joining TMC Health in 2016, Horvath served as chief human resource officer for Methodist Hospitals Inc. in Merrillville, Indiana, where he was responsible for all human resources, communications, employee assistance programming, community outreach and wellness functions within the multi-hospital system. Prior to Methodist Hospitals, he worked at Advocate Bromenn Healthcare, Bloomington, Illinois, and Naperville Community Health Services, Naperville, Illinois. Horvath earned a bachelor's degree from Aurora University and a master's degree from Loyola University in Chicago. He specializes in talent management, coaching, executive development and strategic planning. He has earned executive certifications from Harvard University and University of Michigan and serves as an active member of the Pima County Workforce Investment Board.

Dr. Josh Lee

Dr. Josh Lee is the lead strategist for information, data and technology for TMC Health. He oversees all aspects of the Information Services department; develops and implements short- and long-range plans to meet current and future information needs of the organization. Prior to joining TMC Health, he was the physician executive at a large academic hospital in Tucson. Before coming to Tucson, Dr. Lee served in chief information officer and chief health information officer positions with Loyola University Health System; University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine; and University of California San Diego Health System. Dr. Lee has held academic positions with University of Arizona, Loyola University of Chicago, University of Southern California, and University of California, San Diego. He graduated from the University of California at San Francisco and completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard University. He is board certified in internal medicine and has an active clinical practice. Dr. Lee completed his training in medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Jeffrey Lamie - VP

Jeffrey Lamie joined the TMC Foundation in April 2020 as vice president and chief development officer. In this position, Lamie works with community supporters who are committed to advancing Tucson Medical Center and TMC HealthCare's mission to provide exceptional health care with compassion. Prior to moving to Tucson, Lamie served as president and chief executive officer of the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation in Sante Fe, New Mexico, where he established a track record of advancing efforts to provide greater philanthropic support for critical programs that serve the community. He has led fundraising initiatives and capital campaigns at public and private health care and higher education organizations including the Children's Hospital at the University of Virginia, St. Vincent Hospital, the Health Center at the University of Louisville and Catholic Health Initiatives. Lamie earned a Juris Doctorate from the Dickinson School of Law - Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor of Arts in history from Rutgers University.

Joy L. Upshaw - VP

Joy L. Upshaw serves as vice president and chief nursing officer for Tucson Medical Center, focusing on the ways nursing practice and development shape quality and safety initiatives as well as patient experience. Upshaw has more than 14 years of clinical leadership devoted to enhancing the quality of care provided by nursing. She has a reputation for outstanding leadership in a wide and diverse range of nursing areas, including oncology, orthopaedics, cardiac, maternal child health, emergency department, same-day services, respiratory therapy and intensive care. Prior to her service with TMC, Upshaw served in a chief nursing role for five years for a large nonprofit osteopathic academic medical center as well as two years in a rural-hospital environment. She is known for developing and fostering effective nursing leadership teams. Upshaw serves on the board of a nonprofit organization ensuring underserved kids have food at home. Earlier in her career, she was recognized as Oklahoma's first 100 Great Nurses. Upshaw earned both a Bachelor of Science in nursing and a Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

Judy Rich - CEO, President

As president and chief executive officer of TMC Health, Judy Rich oversees the integrated health care delivery system, while also steering strategic development initiatives to support long-term growth and stability. TMC Health includes Tucson Medical Center, TMC Medical Network/TMCOne, Northern Cochise Community Hospital, Benson Hospital, TMC Rincon Health Campus, TMC Foundation and strategic partnerships. Rich has had a varied health care career since she received an undergraduate degree in nursing from New York's Roberts Wesleyan College and a graduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She held management positions at St. Mary's Hospital in Palm Beach, Florida, for 15 years and served as chief operating officer at Wellmont Health System, in Kingsport, Tennessee, before moving to Tucson in 2003. She was chief operating officer for Tucson Medical Center until 2005 and joined The Bard Group in Boston as a senior consultant, with a focus on physician engagement in large academic medical centers. Upon returning to Tucson Medical Center in June 2007, Rich led the hospital in a financial turnaround. She has served on the boards of the American Hospital Association, Vizient West Coast and the Southern Arizona Leadership Council, and is past chair of the Arizona Hospital & Healthcare Association. She is also past chair of the United Way Campaign for Tucson and Southern Arizona, and she previously served on the boards of VHA National, EMERGE! Center Against Domestic Abuse and the executive advisory council of UnitedHealthcare. Additionally, Rich is a member of the Chairman's Circle of Sun Corridor Inc.

Julia Strange

Julia Strange serves as vice president of External Affairs & Brand for TMC Health, with responsibility for government relations, community outreach, advertising and marketing, and strategic communication. Strange holds leadership positions that focus on building coalitions to address critical community health needs, strengthening the nonprofit regional health system and advocating for policy to support access to care. Her community board services has included Tucson Festival of Books, the Beyond Foundation, Arizona Chamber of Commerce, Arizona Bioscience Roadmap Steering Committee, the Pima County Workforce Investment Board, Science of Sport, Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona, Mobile Meals of Tucson, the Tucson Healthcare Federal Credit Union and the Employers Health Alliance of Arizona. In 2016, Strange was awarded the Grassroots Advocate Award for Arizona from the American Hospital Association. In 2018, she was a finalist for the Tucson Women of Influence Lifetime Achievement Award. Prior to joining TMC Health in 1996, she was a reporter and writer for University of Southern California, Inside Tucson Business and the Indianapolis Business Journal. She is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Journalism and holds a master's in jurisprudence from Seton Hall School of Law.

Julie Ward

As vice president of Operations, Julie Ward, R.N., oversees daily operations of the hospital and related organizational entities including Tucson Medical Center and Outpatient Services. This oversight also includes Facilities, Security and Transportation, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Dietary and Imaging Services. Ward has been with TMC since 2006 with roles in the TMC CardioVascular Center, Critical Care and Perioperative Services, and as Quality and Patient Safety Officer. Ward has a proven track record in quality assurance and leading complex, multidisciplinary teams focused on improving processes to support TMC's operational, clinical and strategic goals and objectives. In addition to her work at TMC, Ward has held nursing positions with University Medical Center - Kino Campus, El Dorado Hospital and Scottsdale Healthcare with experience in trauma/emergency, pediatric intensive care, adult cardiac and step-down units, general surgery, and special procedures.

Kevin Kilday - CFO, VP

As vice president and chief financial officer for Tucson Medical Center, Kevin Kilday is responsible for the hospital's financial operations and planning, including overseeing supply chain, revenue cycle, health information management, reimbursement and decision support. Prior to the joining TMC, he served as vice president and chief financial officer at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Anna Jaques Hospital is a community hospital with a physician group practice and is a member of Beth Israel Lahey Health. Kilday has a diverse background that includes oversight of financial operations, scheduling and registration, materials management, health information management and information technology. Kilday earned his bachelor degree in finance from Boston University. He also earned his Master in Business Administration with a concentration in health care finance from Boston University. Kilday is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

Kevin Smith - SVP

Kevin Smith, M.D., MBA, serves as chief medical officer and vice president of Medical Affairs where he brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role shaping medical strategy, enhancing patient care and advancing health care delivery across the organization. His expertise in quality improvement, patient safety and clinical leadership also contribute to TMC's ongoing commitment to excellence. Dr. Smith previously served as the chief medical officer at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Carolina, a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University Chicago, and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics. With a distinguished academic career, Dr. Smith has served as an associate professor of medicine and pediatrics at Loyola University Chicago's Stritch School of Medicine. He has also been a leader in quality and patient safety initiatives, holding significant administrative positions at Loyola University Medical Center, including associate chief medical officer for Quality and Safety, vice chair for Quality and Safety in the Department of Medicine, and lead physician for the Loyola Sickle Cell Program.

Mimi Coomler

Mimi Coomler, serves as chief executive officer for Tucson Medical Center ensuring the day-to-day operational excellence of Tucson's largest hospital and TMC Health's flagship facility, a 628-bed acute-care facility with more than 4,000 employees that opened in 1944. In her role, Coomler's steady and forward-thinking leadership continues to build upon the culture and quality of care that has defined TMC for many years. Her operational responsibility covers the hospital, including surgery, emergency services, critical care, infection control and hospice. She has focused expertise in creating partnerships, strategic planning, regulatory compliance and team building. Her return to TMC in 2017 as chief operating officer was a homecoming of sorts as Coomler had previously served as the director of patient care services for TMC for Women and TMC for Children from 2006-12. In between, she served as the chief executive officer of Children's Clinics for Rehabilitative Services, a nonprofit multi-specialty clinic that serves as a medical home for children with complex healthcare needs. With more than 20 years as a registered nurse, she is passionate about improving health throughout Southern Arizona. Children with special health care needs became an area of focus for her after her young son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Coomler is past president of the Southern Arizona Women's Foundation and former board chair of the local chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.

Steve Reichling - CFO, SVP

Steve Reichling joined TMC Health in 2023 as senior vice president and chief financial officer. In this role, Reichling is responsible for the planning and operations of the organization's financial affairs, including revenue cycle, supply chain, capital and operational budgeting, financial reporting, treasury functions, governmental reimbursement and managed care contracting. Reichling came to TMC Health from Accelerate Diagnostics Inc., where he served as chief financial officer and head of operations. Accelerate is an innovative bioscience company that builds new technology and tests to accelerate lab results and drive better clinic outcomes for patients. Prior to Accelerate, Reichling worked for Spring Bioscience, Ventana Medical Systems and Ernst & Young. Reichling, a former certified public accountant, holds degrees from the University of Arizona and London Guildhall University. He has a a passion for improving lives through health care innovation that positively impacts patient outcomes and makes people's lives better.

Tim Reuschel - Chief Legal Officer, SVP

Tim Reuschel joined TMC Health in 2022 where he manages all legal functions of the enterprise and serves as a strategic partner to TMC Health's various boards, committees, and executive leadership. Prior to moving to Tucson, Reuschel served as chief legal officer for Great River Health System in Burlington, Iowa, and as vice president and general counsel for Hannibal (Mo.) Regional Healthcare System. In those capacities, he has had extensive experience leading litigation, hospital/practice acquisitions, corporate governance initiatives and medical staff issues. Before moving into full-time hospital work, Reuschel was an active trial lawyer with experience trying more than 100 contested matters to verdict or judgment. Reuschel earned a bachelor's degree from Truman State University and his law degree from the University of Missouri, where he served as Senior Note and Comment Editor of the Missouri Law Review and was admitted to the Order of the Coif. He also served as president of the Missouri Society of Healthcare Attorneys in 2019.
