Alexandra Johnson

As the Head of Marketing and Communications Alex is responsible for the development and implementation of marketing plans for all IBE activities. Alex is also responsible for the management and coordination of all IBE events. Prior to joining the IBE Alex worked with the aviation regulator, Civil Aviation Authority; a consultancy, Sovereign Strategy and barristers chambers, Cloisters. All roles were in an Events and Administration capacity. The variety of industries provided an experience of different ways of working.

Biren Misra

Biren joined the IBE Board of Trustees in July 2023. Biren is a seasoned management consultant with extensive experience in the field of technology transformation and business strategy. Throughout his years within the consulting and industry, such as Accenture, American Express, UnitedHealth Group and others, Biren has worked with companies, helping them challenge industry orthodoxies, reinvent themselves, and deliver value to customers through people and technology transformation. Biren is passionate about creating a human-centric inclusive ecosystem with a keen focus on change management, enhancing experience and leveraging the benefits of automation, AI and other latest technology trends. Unique blend of experience across India, USA, Southeast Asia and UK, he has successfully led complex global transformation programs, placing a strong focus on digital HR, wellbeing, employee experience, automation, and analytics. Biren has an MBA in Finance and possesses Masters in AI from Oxford University. He holds certifications in Design Thinking, Google Cloud Digital Leader, Lean Six Sigma and Emotional Intelligence. Biren is an advocate of diversity, equity and inclusivity and authors articles on AI Ethics focusing on ensuring data representation of marginalised population within datasets to make AI to safeguard processes to deliver ethical solutions. Biren lives in London. He is a concept artist and enjoys creative pursuits and uses photography, sculptures, and multi-medium art forms for storytelling.

Corinne Fenech

Corinne is an Associate with the IBE and brings with her over 20 years of industry experience. She is a corporate consultant and trainer with experience in operations and strategic management. With pride, she says that the fact that she has moved up the ranks step by step made her appreciate all types of work and the efforts of all team members at whichever rank. She is also a Design Thinking facilitator and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt practitioner. A firm believer in life-long development and passionate about people development as well as ethical business practices. Corinne holds an Executive MBA and MA in Business Ethics from the University of Malta. She is also researching for her PhD in Management with the University of Glasgow and her area of focus is Ethical Blindness in Organisations. Corinne is definitely not all work! In her free time, she loves trekking, travelling, learning about cultures and photography..

Dora Carbonell

Dora plays a crucial role in the development and delivery of the IBE's advisory work. Working collaboratively with business leaders and their teams, through training and participatory interventions, she supports businesses to follow best practice and hold the highest corporate ethical standards.   Being a firm believer of the Doughnut Economics, Dora is an enthusiast of sustainability understood and practiced as a catalyst for systemic change and social transformation. For her, the bottom line of a successful business intersects purpose, culture and values, and ethical leadership. Her major interest is in leadership for sustainability and ethical business practices that go beyond compliance: public and corporate programmes for systemic transformation, stakeholder empowerment and engagement, cross-cutting collaboration, and the creation of synergies between sectors, are just some of Dora's biggest interests. Holding an MSc in Environmental Science, Dora has extensive experience in leadership for sustainability and capacity-building programmes. Before joining the IBE, Dora supported organisations across the board to embed sustainable business practices into their strategies and operations, developed and delivered the flagship Training Better Leaders Programme at the University of Oxford, and supported local communities in the UK, Iceland, Portugal and Spain to be greener, healthier, and more inclusive, through various projects. Dora is currently pursuing a Master's in CSR and Sustainable Leadership at the Open University of Catalonia.

Dr Ian Peters

Ian Peters has been Director of the Institute of Business Ethics (IBE) since May 2020. In addition to leading the IBE's team of researchers and advisers, Ian works with company boards and senior leadership to support them in promoting an ethical culture. Ian serves on a number of external bodies including: the IoD Commission to develop a Code of Conduct for Directors, the CBI's Culture Advisory Committee, the Financial Reporting Council Stakeholder Insight Group, the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment Integrity Committee and the University College London Centre for Ethics and Law Advisory Panel. He also chaired the Chartered Governance Institute's Board Performance Review Working Group. Previous appointments include Chair of the Independent Monitoring Panel of the UK Chartered Banker Professional Standards Board, member of the UK Regulatory Policy Committee and its predecessor, the Better Regulation Task Force, and member of the Court of the University of Lancaster. Ian's previous executive roles include Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (UK and Ireland,) Director of External Affairs at the Engineering Employers Federation (EEF), Deputy Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce, Head of SME Policy at the Confederation of British Industry, and a period in public relations for PR agency Burson-Marsteller. He holds a PhD from Southampton University on the role of small businesses in economic growth and a BA in Geography from the University of Lancaster. In 2015 Ian was awarded an MBE for services to regulatory reform in the UK.

Dr Samuel Tosin Lawal

As a Researcher at IBE, Sam plays a crucial role in supporting the development, delivery, and dissemination of both internal and external research and advisory projects. Sam's passion lies in harnessing the potential of both quantitative and qualitative data to foster a culture of ethical considerations within business practices and policies, ultimately contributing to a broader societal impact. Before joining IBE, Sam held the position of Research Officer for the University of Reading's Research Culture Project. In this role, he led research initiatives aimed at enhancing the research environment within the university. Additionally, Sam worked part-time as an Associate Lecturer at Henley Business School, where he delivered Undergraduate Business modules and supervised Master's dissertations in Marketing. Sam holds a degree in Accounting from Babcock University, Nigeria, and an MSc in Business Analytics and Management Science from the University of Southampton. Notably, in 2018, he secured the prestigious Henley Business School Marketing and Reputation PhD Scholarship. This accomplishment led to the successful completion of his PhD in Marketing and Reputation from the University of Reading, where his thesis investigated the malleability of public attitudes and behaviours to organisational stories incorporating stakeholders' perspective.

Emma Darlow

Emma is responsible for the administration of IBE's supporter base. This includes annual donations from organisations and individuals, processing of publications orders, and financial & general administration. She also assists the Head of Operations and Finance to ensure an effective and efficiently run internal office. Emma has obtained a strong customer service and administration background from extensive retail experience. Prior to joining the IBE she worked at Burberry's Flagship Store.

Fabiola Williams

With over 30 years' of experience working in multilingual and multicultural contexts, Fabiola has gained a broad experience in Human Resources and Business Transformation in private and public sectors, including McKinsey & Company, L'Oréal Group and the Department of Work and Pensions. She has been the Chief People Officer at McArthurGlen since 2019. She has consistently developed and led new people strategies implementing systems change, business and culture transformation, Leadership Development, Inclusion, Equity & Diversity, Engagement and Performance Management. She holds an M.Sc. In Organisational Change from Ashridge Business School and a BA in French and Italian with Double Honours from the University of Manchester. She speaks several languages and holds qualifications in Action Learning and a number of professional development tools. She has focussed increasingly on human psychology, behavioural change and complex, adaptive systems. In her work she has sought to bring out the human aspects of business and leadership, especially in development and culture, to enable people to collaborate for positive change.

Helen Firth

Helen provides secretarial and administrative support to the Director of the IBE and is secretary to the Professionals against Corruption steering group. She helps to co-ordinate and organise the training sessions and events for PaC. Prior to joining the IBE, Helen worked in various Executive and Personal Assistant roles for members of senior management at the University of Huddersfield. Helen holds a BA(Hons) in Computing and Business and a Masters with distinction in Business Administration from the University of Huddersfield.

Ian Dyson

  • Retired Commissioner of the City of London Police
Ian became a Trustee of the IBE in July 2015. Retired Commissioner of the City of London Police, Ian Dyson has spent most of his life in London. He joined the Metropolitan Police in 1983 and retired in January 2022, working within many different areas including crime and drug squads, vice and strategic planning. For eleven years, Ian was a public order cadre trained senior officer, and has extensive experience of commanding the policing of large public events. Ian joined Surrey Police as Assistant Chief Constable in June 2008 overseeing some of the highest confidence levels in the country and improving Neighbourhood Policing. Ian joined the City of London Police as Commander in September 2010 and two years later was promoted to Assistant Commissioner. He led the force's change programme City First and is currently leading the cultural change and development programme, City Futures. His portfolio of responsibilities includes leading on Professional Standards and Equality, Diversity and Human Rights (EDHR) issues. From June 2008 to May 2013, Ian was the ACPO lead for Contact Management and led the national roll out for the 101 non-emergency number. He is now the National Policing Lead (formerly ACPO lead) for Information Assurance. Ian lives in Wandsworth, has 3 children and likes old cars.

Jason Engelbrecht

Jason joined the IBE Board of Trustees in October 2019. Jason is a technology leader and data scientist who has led large organisations to deliver online and digital transformation programs. His current position is with Munich Re Insurance as Chief Technology Officer, leading the development of Technology Trend analysis and the creation of innovative and transformative digital products and services. Additionally, Jason has a Non-Executive Director position at Makerversity, who specifically delivers space and learning programmes for young people to inspire the next generation of creative and practical minds and to increase the diversity within the creative industries. He has previously held the role of Head of Research of Development of Bloomberg's Renewable Energy information platform, and prior to that, he led a global unit developing advanced machine learning algorithms at Thomson Reuters. He was awarded his Masters in Business Administration from Cass Business School and holds a Masters in Data Science and Machine Learning. Jason has served and supported a number of charities including The National Centre for Circus Arts, Mencap and Diversity Role Models as well as having been a pension Trustee.

Jennifer Lashley

Jennifer processes all the financial information for the IBE and completes the financial year-end statements. She has extensive experience in the accounting field, mainly in small and medium sized not-for- profit organisations. She is a member of the AAT and has passed the CIMA Advanced Management Diploma and undertakes regular CPD to enhance her knowledge.

Judi Wright

Judi is responsible for IBE's Engagement, Finance, HR & Payroll, Office & Facilities, and is Secretary to the Board of Trustees and the IBE's International Advisory Council. Her role comprises of strentgthening IBE's relationship with all our supporters and to help build new relationships to add to our supporter base. It is also to ensure business operations are efficient in terms of using as few resources as needed, and effective in terms of meeting customer requirements, overseeing planning, organising and supervising in the contexts of production and the provision of services. Judi has a strong client relationship management and operational management background in the charity sector, having previously worked at the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) and at the Association of MBAs (AMBA). She also has an exceptional customer service background in addition to a wealth of experience in Fundraising, Event Management, Account Management, Training, HR and Finance.

Katy Gibson

Loree Gourley

Loree joined the IBE Board of Trustees in October 2019. Loree is a Partner in the EY Financial Services Sustainable Finance practice where she and her team are focused on delivering sustainable Net Zero transition plans and ESG solutions including responsible stewardship, effective governance and enegaement and transparent outcome based disclosures. Loree has a long-standing interest in the vital role institutional investors (asset owners and asset managers) play in driving long-term sustainable value for society. Loree's experience is focused on the investor's role in championing a more equal balance between the interests of shareholders and broader stakeholders to deliver outcomes. She is highly published in this area and is one of EY's foremost specialists in investor stewardship. Loree completed her full time Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM) in Sydney, Australia where she majored in international business spending a term studying in China. She continued her post graduate work at Columbia Business School in New York City. She was also recently recognised by the EY UK Race and Ethnicity Network (REN) for her commitment to championing racial equality, in 2020 Loree was awarded the inaugural Senior Ally Award.

Louise Terry

Louise joined the IBE Trustee Board in October 2019. Louise Terry is a corporate communications specialist who has spent her career managing the reputations of some of the world's leading businesses. She started her career in agencies before moving in-house to become Head of Communications for Coca-Cola and then Group Communications Director of L'Oréal UK. As well as protecting and enhancing those corporate brands, an important part of her role was to instil a strong and positive corporate culture where ethical business practices were embedded throughout the organisation. While at L'Oréal, she was part of the international team that managed the integration of The Body Shop into the L'Oréal family in 2006 and she went on to be Global Head of Communications for The Body Shop in 2012. Louise has also served as Deputy Chair of Save the Children, a leading charity which helps to change the lives of some of the world's most vulnerable children and as Deputy Chair of the Royal Institution. She now works as a consultant to businesses, most recently Unilever, where she created a new ethical marketing code for skin lightening products in Asia. Louise holds an MA in Modern Languages from the University of Cambridge.

Mark Dawson

Mark joined the IBE Board of Trustees in July 2023. Mark is an independent advisor working with Boards and senior Executives across sectors with a strong focus on professional and financial services. He advises a purpose-led culture consultancy that seeks to help business work for the world and advises client service teams in professional services on their strategic client mandate, building trusted client relationships and living their own and their client's organisational purpose. For 20 years Mark was a partner at PwC, where he led the firm's People and Organisation (P&O) practice in the UK. He established the global P&O practice in the early 2000s and was a member of the global Consulting Leadership Team and led the consumer and industrial products and services consulting practice. He led PwC's services and relationships globally with the world's largest-producing oil major. His reputation was as the ‘go to' partner for clients requiring a major organisational reset in response to an ethics, regulatory or performance failure. Mark is a Fellow of the ICAEW and a member of the Global Association of Applied Behavioural Science. He holds a Leadership Circle Profile Certification, and a Masters in Organisational Change from HEC, Paris and Oxford University. He is married with four children and lives in the North West of England, where he is a governor of two local schools.

Meriem Smida

Meriem joined the IBE Board of Trustees in July 2023. An experienced negotiator and deal maker, Meriem is a finance professional with 22 years combined experience in international Private Equity and Investment Banking. An LSE graduate, Meriem initially joined the Mergers & Acquisitions Department of Citigroup London, where she executed numerous transactions across various sectors in emerging markets before moving into private equity - first as an investment professional with leading emerging markets investment firm Actis Capital, mainly focused on originating and executing private equity transactions in Africa, and subsequently joined energy-focused private equity fund manager Kerogen Capital. She was most recently a Partner at Ethos, a leading alternative investment manager in Africa. Meriem also spent 6 years at French investment bank Natixis in both Hong Kong and London firstly as Head of M&A Asia Pacific and later as the Global Head of Private Equity coverage. Throughout her career, Meriem has been an active advocate of diversity and equal opportunities in finance and successfully implemented a "returnship" program within Natixis Asia to allow professionals to reintegrate into the workplace. Meriem is born and brought up in Tunisia, Africa - lived and worked in the UK, France and Hong Kong and speaks fluent Arabic, French and English. Meriem is also an internationally certified yoga teacher and the proud mother of two daughters.

Mike Tuffrey

Mike joined the Board of Trustees in July 2017. A chartered accountant by profession, Mike's career has covered all three sectors, private, public and voluntary. In business, Mike is co-founder of Corporate Citizenship, an international management consultancy specialising in sustainability and corporate responsibility, where he advises clients on sustainable business strategies. He began his career as a trainee at KPMG, having graduated from Durham University with an economics degree. In public service, Mike has been local councillor and council leader, and served for a decade on the London Assembly where he was appointed by Mayors Livingstone and Johnson to the London Sustainable Development Commission. Currently he is treasurer of the New Economic Foundation and chair of The Restart Project, a social enterprise helping people take action to reduce electronic waste. Previously he worked as director of a national charity, Action Resource Centre, now part of Business in the Community. Rachael Saunders

Rachael is Deputy Director of the Institute and is responsible for our research programme, and our advisory and training services. She is most interested in how research can generate insights that inspire action. Rachael has collaborated with senior leaders across business, charities, communities, local and central government. After gaining her first degree in Politics and History from the University of Durham, and a Masters in Gender and Social Policy from the London School of Economics, Rachael worked in Westminster, then for Carers UK, for UNISON, the public sector trade union, and for the TUC, on skills policy. She was at Business in the Community for over ten years, as an expert in workplace diversity and then in education business partnerships. As a Director at BITC, she worked closely with the Department for Work and Pensions, the then Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and business leaders from Aviva, Barclays, Nationwide, UBS, McKinsey and many more. Her most recent role was on the SLT of Speakers for Schools as it scaled its delivery of opportunities for young people. She has held a number of trustee roles including on the board of the Rich Mix Cultural Foundation, the Bromley by Bow Centre and East End Homes. She is currently chair of a charity called Sister System. She was an elected local councillor for ten years and served as leader of the Labour Group on Tower Hamlets Council. In 2019 Rachael gained an MSc from Birkbeck, University of London, in Business Ethics and Corporate Governance, with a dissertation focussed on how boards communicate their community engagement.

Richard Hardyment

As Head of Business Engagement, Richard is responsible for new business opportunities and strategic partnerships at the IBE. He has spent over 15 years advising and assessing multinational companies on responsible and sustainable business practices. He is an independent member of B Lab's Multinational Company Standards Advisory Council and guest lectures on materiality and measurement at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership and Imperial College in London. He is the author of The Wellbeing Purpose and Measuring Good Business.

Rory Bramwell-Poole

As the Senior Engagement Officer, Rory acts as the first point of contact for the IBE's existing and potential supporters. He collaborates with the wider team on the planning and delivery of all engagement activities, and is also secretary to the IBE's Networks (BEN, ProfBEN, USG & DPG). With a varied background of working in membership, business development, and customer service, Rory enjoys building strong relationships and working collaboratively to ensure successful, interesting projects are brought to fruition.

Sarah Mason - Treasurer

Sarah joined the IBE Board of Trustees in July 2023. Sarah is a VP of Internal Audit & Risk Management with over 25 years' experience in the commercial sector, with extensive knowledge of effective governance. After graduating from Oxford University with a degree in Mathematics, Sarah joined Ernst & Young where she trained as a Chartered Accountant and moved into Business Risk Consulting. She worked for Centrica where she led the Internal Audit function for their upstream and trading businesses. During 2020, she joined a privately owned company to set up their Internal Audit and Risk Management functions and oversee these through a transition to becoming FTSE listed. Sarah was a school governor for 8 years, where she chaired the finance committee. Outside of work, Sarah likes running, singing and gardening and enjoys spending time with her three teenage daughters.

Tim Langton - Chief Compliance Officer

Tim joined the IBE Board of Trustees in October 2019. Tim Langton is Chief Compliance Officer at the Wella Company. Tim is a respected ethics and compliance professional with more than 20 years' experience of building, running and leading ethics and compliance functions, teams and programmes in medium to very large international global businesses in numerous sectors including: energy, utilities, manufacturing, oil and gas, mining, financial information and news, technology, industrial gases, materials handling and logistics. Tim has also managed large change and culture programmes across complex global companies. Tim has designed, built and managed ethics and compliance programmes of all shapes and sizes, covering all aspects - including risk management programmes, codes of conduct, whistleblowing lines, corporate values, training, ethics registers and all investigations. Tim has also managed and led functions and teams of all sizes and rationalized functions and programmes in challenging cost environments. Tim has designed and implemented tailored programmes to ensure bribery, competition/anti-trust, money laundering, trade regulation/sanctions, data protection and conduct risks are effectively managed. Tim has wide experience in bribery risk, creating ABC programmes from scratch in global multinationals and having worked with the UK Government (Ministry of Justice) during the creation of the Bribery Act, helping to draft the adequate procedures guidance. Tim has managed disclosures and notifications to various global regulators in numerous jurisdictions around the globe. He has selected, on-boarded and facilitated the work programmes of monitors appointed by various U.S. Government Departments (Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission and Environmental Protection Agency). Tim qualified as a Barrister in 1991 and as a Solicitor in 1998.
