ART DESIGN - Key Persons
Aaron Ahuvia is an award-winning educator and researcher who explores consumers' involvement with products and services that they love, as well as the nature of contemporary consumer culture with a special focus on how people can build successful lives within this environment.
Ahuvia is a widely published author, the former Vice President for Academic Affairs for the International Society for Quality of Life Studies (ISQUOLS), and former associate editor for the Journal of Economic Psychology. He has worked or taught internationally in Italy, Finland, Denmark, Israel, Jordan, Yemen, Singapore, Rwanda and Kazakhstan, and has been awarded the first US government grant project in Libya since the lifting of sanctions. His teaching and scholarship have been recognized at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, where he was the winner of the 2007 Distinguished Research Award and was named the 2001 Faculty Member of the Year.
Ahuvia has published academic research in leading scientific journals and reference works. In addition to many academic publications, Professor Ahuvia's research has been quoted in Time, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, major publications in Europe and Japan, and has appeared on public radio talk shows as well as popular Television shows such as Oprah.
Adrian Deva is a painter and art educator who has been teaching at the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design since 2008. His creative work synthesizes influences from broad number of sources such as: 19th century hand colored albumen base photography, socialist modern architecture, memory and a constructed place, shifts in cultural trends, national conflicts, and migration. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in his native Kosovo, Austria, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada, Macedonia and more recently in Fórum Eugénio de Almeida, Evora, Portugal, and in Sining Makiling Gallery, University of the Philippines, Los Baños, Philippines. His work has been awarded and is featured in private and public collections.
Amy Davis is a Detroit-based visual artist and educator, who specializes in photography and video projects. She is particularly drawn to using the medium of photography to explore how social media, technology and popular culture play a role in defining personal identity.

Andy Kirshner is a composer, performer, writer, and media artist who creates music-theater works. Drawing on an eclectic background in jazz, classical composition, theater, dance, video, and performance art, he constructs multidisciplinary compositions that explore areas of intersection among the traditional performing arts and contemporary media. A trained composer and saxophonist who has also studied singing, acting and electronic media, he is often the principal performer of the pieces he creates.
Kirshner's compositions and performances have been recognized and funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust, the Massachusetts Council on the Arts, Meet the Composer, the American Music Center, ArtServe Michigan, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
His recent works include An Evening with Tony Amore, a show-biz performance piece for jazz voice and orchestra based on the myth of Frank Sinatra; Who It Is, a one-man video musical about race and nationalism; and Four Haiku, a web piece. He is currently at work on a post-human, sci-fi morality play, The Museum of Life and Death, which incorporates music, dance, motion capture technology, surround sound, and virtual actors. His music-theater work has been presented at the Museum of African American History in Detroit, Dance Theater Workshop, P.S. 122, BACA Downtown, the DIA Arts Foundation, and St. Mark's Church in New York City, as well as other performance venues and university settings nationwide.
As a collaborator in dance, performance, theater, and video, Kirshner has worked with well-known performance artists, filmmakers and puppeteers, playwrights, choreographers, directors, and sculptors. His sound/music scores have been heard in such diverse locations as the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Astoria Swimming Pools, the American Dance Festival, Central Park Summerstage, the Joyce Theater, the Nebraska State Capitol Building, Lincoln Center's Serious Fun Festival, and Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival.

Audrey Bennett is a graphic design scholar who studies cross-cultural and trans-disciplinary design that make use of images that permeate global culture and impact the way we think and behave. In her book, Engendering Interaction with Images, she argues that engendering user interaction with images improves their communicative effectiveness by enabling them to convey meanings effectively across cultures. Bennett writes:
Bennett is the co-editor of the Icograda Design Education Manifesto 2011 and participates on the editorial boards of the Journal of Communication Design, Text & Image, and the New Design Ideas Journal. She is a member of the board of directors of CAA: Advancing Art and Design.

Blanca Echeverria is an artist and educator. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Arts from the University of Colorado Boulder. She has taught art courses at multiple institutions, including Adams State University, Regis University, the University of Hartford and Wayne State University. Her experience in higher education extends into the areas of advising and admissions counseling. Presently, she is the Pre-College Programs Coordinator at the Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan.
Blanca's cross-disciplinary practice incorporates a diverse array of media, including ceramics, sculpture, drawing and digital art. Her research focuses on concepts originating from identity and struggles with fecundity. Her work has been exhibited at a broad range of conferences, galleries and museums. A selected list of exhibition sites include the CU Art Museum, The Clay Studio, Baltimore Clayworks, the Dairy Arts Center, Reese Gallery, Goodwin Fine Art, the Electronic Literature Organization and NCECA.

Carlos Francisco Jackson is dean of the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design. His appointment began on July 1, 2022 and runs through June 30, 2027. He is also a tenured professor of art and design at the Stamps School.
Prior to joining the Stamps School, Dean Jackson held several academic administrative roles at the University of California-Davis. Most recently, as associate dean for academic programs and planning, he managed all aspects of the undergraduate program in UC Davis' College of Letters and Science. Also at UC Davis, Dean Jackson was the chair of the Department of Chicana/o Studies, chair of the Cultural Studies Graduate Group, and professor of Chicana/o Studies.

Carol Jacobsen is an award-winning social documentary artist whose works in video and photography address issues of women's criminalization and censorship. Her art has been exhibited and screened at venues worldwide, including New York's Lincoln Center, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Centre de Cultural Contemporanea in Barcelona, the Kunstforum in Bonn, the Brussels International Film Festival, Rome's Temple Gallery, the Photography Biennial of Wanganui, New Zealand, Human Rights Watch of Beijing, and by many grassroots organizations.
Carol Jacobsen is the 2005-06 Human Rights Fellow at the University of Michigan. In addition to her teaching responsibilities in art and women's and gender studies at the University of Michigan, Jacobsen serves as Director of the Michigan Women's Clemency Project. In that capacity, she advocates for the human rights of women prisoners and seeks freedom for women wrongly incarcerated. Her projects have been sponsored by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, COYOTE, Women's Prison Association of New York, the American Civil Liberties Association, and other non-profit organizations.
Cheryl Evans joined Stamps from Michigan Medicine with over 24 years of administrative support to senior executives as an Administrative Assistant. In her previous role as an Administrative Assistant Senior in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonary, Cheryl had a range of administrative responsibilities, which included general administrative support for department leadership; assisting faculty with physician's re-credentialing packages, M-CV Liasion while serving as central point of contact for information on administrative policies, procedures, and requirements of the organization. Cheryl also actively participated in management level meetings and discussions pertaining to administrative functions for the department. Previously, Cheryl served as an Administrative Assistant for the Chair in the Department of Neurosurgery.
Cheryl holds a B.S. in Business Management from University of Phoenix, and a Master's in Healthcare Administration from Capella University.
In her spare time Cheryl enjoys spending time with her grandchildren as well as playing the piano, crocheting, and knitting.

Dean Jackson is a visual artist and writer, whose work is a reflection of Chicanx art praxis, engaging community-engaged cultural practices of social justice. His work has been exhibited in national traveling exhibitions such as "Estampas de la Raza: Contemporary Mexican American Prints from the Romo Collection," which began at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas, and "Printing the Revolution: The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965-Now," which just opened at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Dean Jackson was also the co-founding director of Taller Arte del Nuevo Amanecer, a community-based art center that was a collaborative partnership between the UC Davis Department of Chicana/o Studies and the Woodland, California community.

Ferran Barenblit is an internationally recognized museum director with extensive managerial and curatorial experience who has lead uninterruptedly three museums in the last twenty years. An expert with a deep understanding of the political and social complexities of museums and the need to consider them as an essential catalyst for engaged citizenship. His last position was Director, MACBA Museum of Contemporary Art Barcelona (2015-2021), one of the most prominent museums in Europe, with a major collection, now central to the museum's narrative, significant temporary exhibitions, and an impactful educational and public program. MACBA is an organization committed to community outreach in permanent dialogue with its constituents. With this strong base in Barcelona, the museum extends its international relationships with partner organizations around the globe. Previously, he was the director of CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (2008-2015); and CASM Santa Monica Arts Center (2002-2008).
