Counselling is a process that uses listening and reflecting skills to help a client develop a better understanding of their own problems. Counselling is not about getting advice. Instead counselling aims to help the client find their own inner resources to approach problems in a fresh and more productive way. This is achieved through the development of a trusting relationship between the counsellor and client. It is therefore important to feel valued and understood by your counsellor, so that you can trust the counselling process... Sessions last 50 minutes, ideally once a week, for a period of weeks or months, depending on your needs and the difficulty you are experiencing. Different intervals between appointments can be negotiated but attending regularly helps the counselling process and allows you to perhaps experiment with different behaviours or try out relaxation techniques. After six sessions of counselling a review will take place to assess how you feel counselling is going..
