Abbie Shipley

Abbie joined the Dovecote team after studying level 3 animal management for a year at Broomfield college. She started as a patient care assistant in 2020 and hopes to go onto vet nursing in the future. She has a Labrador called murphy, a rabbit called Jojo and a hamster called Albie. And enjoys looking after them all in her spare time.

Amanda (Mandy) Carter

Qualifications C-SQP Pet Bereavement Support Advisor Mandy joined Dovecote Veterinary Hospital in September 2001 as a part-time emergency receptionist, and became a full-time in house receptionist in January 2009. She then went on to qualify as an AMTRA C-SQP in September 2012 and more recently has undertaken the Blue Cross pet bereavement course to become a pet bereavement support advisor. She has three Flat Coated Retrievers, a Border collie and a Mastiff cross. In her spare time, Mandy enjoys spending time showing her Flat Coated Retrievers, walking, reading and holidays away with the family.

Amy Hubble

Qualifications Amy started working in the veterinary field in October 2019 as a receptionist and soon progressed to a Patient Care Assistant. Amy joined the Dovecote team in August 2022 and will be starting college in September to become a fully qualified Patient Care Assistant, her first step to becoming a veterinary nurse. She spends her spare time working for a children's charity, playing football and going on long walks with her dogs Bailey and Steve.

Amy Lamb

Qualifications RVN FdSc Biological Sciences Degree - Animal Behaviour and Welfare National Diploma in Animal Management First Diploma in Animal Care Amy started working with animals 15 years ago and has been in the veterinary sector for the last 9 years. Amy studied at the University of Chester and obtained a degree in Biological Sciences - Animal Behaviour & Welfare in 2013. She has a keen interest in animal behaviour while hospitalised as well as inpatient care, small animals and nutrition. Amy joined the Dovecote team at the beginning of 2022. Outside of work, Amy has a number of rescue animals at home and enjoys clay pigeon and air rifle shooting in her spare time.

Andrea Grimley

Qualifications RVN NCert (Anaesthesia) Andrea has worked at Dovecote since 2014, after beginning her veterinary career in a first opinion hospital in 2010. Andrea has particular interest in Anaesthesia and Neurology. She is currently studying for her certificate in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Anaesthesia) at Harper Adams University. Outside of work, Andrea enjoys staying active and plays roller derby. The rest of her time is spent with her young family and their naughty ginger cat Nemo!

Beth Shearman-Groves

Beth joined the Dovecote First Opinion team in October 2023. She graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2019 and has a particular interest in ultrasonography, feline medicine and surgery. She is currently completing her Cert AVP in Advanced Veterinary Practice and is also studying for a Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice (Veterinary). Beth has seven cats, two dogs, an African Grey parrot, a leopard gecko and a husband and in her spare time enjoys country walks, arts and crafts and travel.

Bethany Jacobs

Qualifications RVN Bethany has been working in veterinary practice since 2017 and qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2019. She has mainly worked in first opinion general practice, but also has experience in emergency out of hours work. She has a keen interest in anaesthesia and analgesia, with a view to completing a Masters in Advanced Veterinary Nursing in these areas. Outside of work, Bethany is kept busy with her fiancé, 3 children and 2 dogs. She keeps active on walks with the dogs, and also enjoys swimming and going to the gym.

Caris Throssell

Caris joined the Dovecote Reception team in September 2023. She loves being around animals and has worked with them for over ten years in dairy farms, riding stables and also works part time at a boarding kennels. In her spare time, Caris enjoys weightlifting, travelling in her campervan and hiking with her retriever Rosie.

Charlotte Archer

Qualifications RVN Charlotte started working at Dovecote in April 2019. She has been nursing since 2012 and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2016. Charlotte enjoys all aspects of her work but particularly enjoys client care and physiotherapy. She has adopted two cats called Lexi and Nero. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, spending time with friends and going on holiday!

Charlotte Baum

Qualifications Charlotte recently joined the practice in April 2021. She is furthering her education in nursing to cover emergency and critical care and anaesthesia. She spends her time out of work enjoying making memories with her two horses and six dogs.

Chris Morris

Qualifications BVSc CertSAS MRCVS Chris graduated from the University of Bristol in 2001, before working as a mixed general practitioner for four years in North Wales and Rugby. During this time he developed an interest in surgery and moved to a large Veterinary Hospital in Leicester where he gained his RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2009. He has been taking surgical referrals for over 15 years from across Leicestershire. Chris enjoys all aspects of surgery but has particular interests in joint surgery and fracture management.

Codie Brown

Codie qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2021 and has previously worked in both first opinion and referral practices. She has a keen interest in neurology and orthopaedics and is looking forward to developing further in other disciplines while working here at Dovecote. In her spare time, Codie enjoys going on long walks with her two dogs Finn and Henry and playing football.

Connor Hayes

Connor studied animal care and animal management at college and has worked with animals since then. He joined the Dovecote Veterinary Hospital team in November 2018 as a patient care assistant and qualified as a RVN in January 2023. He has a keen interest in oncology and is looking to develop his skills in this area. Outside of work, Connor enjoys going on sightseeing trips and reading for relaxation.

Corinne Flynn

Qualifications BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Nursing and Practice Management RVN PgC Cert Anaesthesia Advanced Veterinary Nursing Diploma Corinne qualified from Harper Adams University in 2016 with a BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Nursing and joined the Dovecote Veterinary Hospital team. Having initially trained in First Opinion practices, she quickly realised that Referrals was her passion. During her time at Dovecote she developed a keen interest in anaesthesia and neurology. She completed a PgC in Anaesthesia with Harper Adams and joined the Advanced Veterinary Nurse (AVN) register in 2021. She is now working towards becoming a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) credentialing in Neurology and hopes to sit the examination next year. Corinne is kept busy at home with her Border Terrier and flock of Shetland sheep.

Elizabeth (Lizz) Hart

Qualifications RVN Lizz qualified in 2012 from Harper Adams University College having carried out her sandwich year at Dovecote Veterinary Hospital. She is the nominated person for infection control within the hospital and also has an interest in wound management. Lizz shares her lovely home with her two dogs, Betty and Morgan, and her two rabbits, Brian and Florence. In her spare time she loves to explore new places with her dogs and spend quality time with her family and friends.

Emily Nicholls

Qualifications RVN ISFM Cat Advocate Emily qualified as a veterinary nurse in May 2021 after beginning her veterinary career at Dovecote in 2018 as a patient care assistant. She has many years of experience working with animals in a variety of settings and has an interest in exotic species, owning a crested gecko and two tarantulas. Emily particularly enjoys working with cats and is the ISFM Cat Advocate for the practice. Outside of work, Emily enjoys staying active and plays tennis, volleyball and dodgeball.

Gail Wragg

Qualifications Gail is the domestic cleaner at Dovecote Veterinary Hospital. She takes pride in maintaining the high standards that the hospital demands and enjoys being part of the team. She has been at Dovecote Vets for several years, and finds her job very satisfying.

Gill Kershaw

Qualifications Coming from a background of procurement in the upholstery industry, an exciting opportunity arose and Gill joined Dovecote Veterinary Hospital in 2011 as the practice manager. Every day can be different and she enjoys the diverse challenges that the role brings. Gill has an active life outside of work being a club secretary for a local basketball team as well as rowing at the weekends. She enjoys caring for and going for long walks with her beautiful Labrador, Nutmeg.

Giuseppe Bonanno

Qualifications DVM CertAVP MRCVS Giuseppe graduated from Bologna University in 2007 and has always had a strong interest in small animal surgery. He moved to the UK in 2014 where he worked for one year as an intern in a busy referral hospital. After that he spent time working in a first opinion practice before joining Dovecote Veterinary Hospital in 2016. Giuseppe has worked at Manchester Veterinary Specialist, an orthopaedic referral centre. In September 2018 he qualified as an Advanced Practitioner (Cert. AVP) and has almost completed his surgical certificate. He has over four years of experience working alongside European specialists managing orthopaedic and soft tissue cases. Giuseppe enjoys all aspects of surgery with a particular interest in cranial cruciate ligament disease, oncology and wound management. He will complement both our orthopaedic and soft tissue service at Dovecote Veterinary Hospital and is hoping to start an ECVS-approved surgical residency programme in the near future.

Helen Pringle

Qualifications Helen joined the Dovecote Veterinary Hospital team in August 2018 after relocating to Derby having previously worked for many years at an equine veterinary hospital in Suffolk. As an administrative assistant at Dovecote she enjoys a varied role and looks forward to the opportunities and challenges ahead of her. When not at work, Helen enjoys travelling, motorcycling and gardening. She also has a Beagle named Freddie who enjoys regular walks with his friends.

Jade Shaw

Qualifications RVN Jade qualified from Myerscough College as a veterinary nurse in 2019 and since qualifying has developed a keen interest in inpatient care and after working in a first opinion practice, joined the Dovecote team to further develop her skills in this area. In her free time, she enjoys finding new places to walk with her dogs Belle and Ludo. She also enjoys playing rugby and spending time with friends and family.

James Pratt

Qualifications BVetMed CertSAS DipECVS MRCVS James graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1991. He completed a three year small animal surgery residency at Edinburgh University in 2000 and became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) the following year. He has been an RCVS specialist since 2008. He has 25 years of experience working in small animal referral practice performing orthopaedics and spinal surgery. He is also a member of the ECVS credentials committee, a 4 year appointment to the body that oversees ECVS resident training. James is happy to see all orthopaedic cases but he has a particular interest in arthroscopy and the correction of limb deformities.

Jayne Edmunds

Jayne joined the Dovecote Veterinary Hospital team in June 2022 as a member of the administration team. Following a background working in the airline industry and various customer service and sales roles in other travel related industries, Jayne moved into the administration field working as an Archivist at a Scientific Laboratory. She then moved into the world of education and became a school receptionist in a local secondary school, and is now looking forward to the challenges of a busy Veterinary Hospital. When she is not at work, Jayne loves pottering in her garden, reading, going to the theatre and taking her Labrador, Darcy, on walks in the local area.

Jessica Scott

Qualifications Jessica graduated in 2017 from Nottingham Trent University with a BSc (Hons) In Veterinary Nursing. She has spent the last 5 years in a first opinion small animal practice. She joined our MiNight team in January 2022. Her favourite aspects of nursing are Anaesthesia, emergency/critical care cases and lab work. She hopes to work towards an Emergency and Critical care certificate in the future. Jessica has three Miniature Schnauzers named Porsha, Marley and Louie and one rabbit named Frankie. In her spare time she enjoy walks with her dogs and her husband, catching up with friends and going to festivals.

Justine Barton

Qualifications BVetMed (Hons) PGCert (SAM) MRCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Internal Medicine Justine graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2013 and spent a year in mixed practice before moving to a small animal only role where she developed an interest in internal medicine. She completed her certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 2017 and enjoys the challenge of working up more complicated cases. Outside of work, Justine enjoys running with her Border Collie, Oscar, is a regular in classes at the gym, and enjoys baking.

Katie Yemm

Katie has always loved animals, owning everything from dogs to rabbits and even praying mantis and spiders. After working in food retail for eight years, she decided to go back to college in 2018 to follow her passion and gain a qualification in animal management, going on to join Dovecote Veterinary reception team in 2021. Outside of work she enjoys taking her Border Collie Jasper out for walks and going to the gym.

Laura Baxter

Qualifications BSc(Hons) VTS anesthesia/analgesia RVN CertVNECC Having trained in a referral environment, Laura quickly realised that this was the path she wanted to take and as such has worked in predominantly referral practice ever since. She became particularly interested in anaesthesia and analgesia and in 2014 became a Veterinary Technician Specialist in the area. Her interest in anaesthesia has continued, particularly anaesthesia for critical patients and pain management. Her qualification has allowed her the opportunity to lecture nationally at both BVNA and BSAVA. Laura has also gained her CertVNECC a qualification in emergency and critical care which has been very helpful working with the out of hours service. At home she enjoys riding her ex-racehorse, Jack and working her Labrador, Scout as well as spending time with her four other dogs.

Laura Cowlishaw

Lyndsey Wheeler

Qualifications MA VetMB PhD DipECVN SFHEA MRCVS Visiting RCVS and European recognised Specialist in Veterinary Neurology Clinical Associate Professor in Veterinary Neurology, University of Nottingham Mike is an RCVS and European Specialist in Veterinary Neurology with over 20 years' experience in small animal neurology referral practice. He is a clinical Associate Professor in Veterinary Neurology within the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, University of Nottingham. Mike splits his time between teaching at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum at the Sutton Bonington Campus and seeing referral neurology cases at Dovecote Veterinary Hospital which is one of the university clinical associate practices that hosts final year students. He is interested in all aspects of veterinary neurology including advanced imaging and neurosurgical procedures and is currently pursuing trials on lumbosacral foraminal stenosis.

Rob White

Qualifications BSc (Hons) BVetMed CertVA DSAS (Soft Tissue) DiplECVS FRCVS European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery (visiting) RCVS Specialist in Small Animal Surgery (Soft Tissue) Rob is a high achieving internationally recognised specialist in soft tissue surgery with broad experience of working in veterinary academia and private referral veterinary practice. Throughout his career he has maintained a strong and consistent publication record and forged a number of successful collaborations with academia and industry. Rob's clinical and educational activities have had a positive impact on advancing small animal veterinary surgery and he has developed a number of novel surgical procedures for the management of respiratory, cardiovascular and urogenital tract diseases in the dog and cat. In 2002, Rob was awarded the BSAVA Simon Award for outstanding contributions to veterinary surgery.
