Dr. Zhu Yanmei

Dr. Zhu Yanmei currently serves as the Director and Executive Vice President of BGI Group. She obtained her Bachelor of engineering from Central South University, and MBA from Fudan University as well as Joint Training Ph.D. from Tongji University and ETH Zurich. Dr. Zhu is also a member of the Central Health Commission of the Democratic League, director of Shenzhen International Exchange and Cooperation Foundation, Master student supervisor of Schwarzman College and BiMBA supervisor of Peking University. Before joining BGI, she was vice president of School of Economics and Management and China Science and Technology Management Research Institute in Tongji University.

Li Bin

Mr. Li joined BGI Group in January 2023. He has received numerous honors, including the National Earthquake Relief Model and National Outstanding Science and Technology Research Worker. He is also the author or chief editor of a number of books looking at leadership, the natural world, and the bioeconomy. Mr. Li graduated from Wuhan University.

Liu Siqi - Founder

Liu Siqi, currently a member of the Board of Directors of BGI Group, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BGI Group, is in charge of the board of supervisors and spectrometry department. Mr. Liu obtained his PhD in human genetics and biochemistry from The University of Texas. Then he did postdoctoral research in biophysics at Baylor College of Medicine. In 1999, Mr. Liu co-founded BGI with the other three scientists and served as a researcher at the Beijing Genomics Research Center. He has served as a professor at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an adjunct professor at China Agricultural University and Central South University, and an associate professor at the University of Louisville.

Lu Jun

Lu Jun currently serves as Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer, and Director of the China Regional Planning and Development Center of BGI Group. Before joining BGI, he served as Secretary of the Suzhou Municipal Party Committee and Party Secretary of the Communist Youth League in Jiangsu Province, Deputy Secretary of the Canglang District Committee of Jiangsu Province, acting district chief, district head, secretary of the CPC Canglang District Committee, director of the District People's Congress Standing Committee; Kunshan, Jiangsu Province Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Acting Mayor, Mayor, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Kunshan Economic and Technological Development Zone, Director of the Management Committee (deputy municipal level); Consultant of Tongren City Government of Guizhou Province, Suzhou counterpart to help the former person in charge of Tongren. Lu Jun graduated from the Youth Ideological Education Department of the China Youth Politics College. He graduated from the Marxist Philosophy Department of Suzhou University with a master's degree and obtained an EMBA degree from the China Europe Business School.

Mei Yonghong

Mei Yonghong is currently the director and executive vice president of BGI Group. He joined BGI in 2015 and has served as a member of the Executive Committee of BGI, director of the China National GeneBank, chairman and president of BGI Agricultural Group, and executive vice president of BGI Group. Before joining BGI, he served as deputy director of the General Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Director of the Research Office, Director of the Policy, Regulation and System Reform Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Mayor of Jining, Shandong. Mei Yonghong graduated from Huazhong Agricultural University with a Bachelor of Agriculture.

Mu Feng - CEO

Mu Feng, CEO of MGI, and his team are committed to breaking down barriers in the area of science and technology, and building MGI into a global leader in providing industry core tools and conducting life science research. He actively promotes the research and development of cutting-edge genomics research and medical equipment. He has participated in or advocated multiple projects including the completion of the 1% genome sequencing project of the International Human Genome Project, the Rice Genome Project, the National "Ninth Five-Year Plan" project HIV testing reagents, the SARS research of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the national major project "Precision Medical Research". He has led the development and application of multi-disciplinary and multi-platform products in areas such as reproductive health, infectious diseases and tumor disease detection, and published nearly 100 papers, and obtained nearly 100 registration certificates and patents. He has been especially invited to the "Innovative and Sustainable Development" high-level forum held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the sixth China-Central and Eastern European country leaders "16+1" signing ceremony, and gave speeches on behalf of BGI as the leader in the global genetics industry.

Wang Jian

Wang Jian, Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of BGI Group, graduated from Hunan Hospital (now Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University) in 1979, and received his master's degree in integrated Chinese and Western medicine from Beijing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (now Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine) in 1986. From 1988 to 1994, Mr. Wang has conducted postdoctoral research at Texas University, the University of Iowa and the University of Washington. In 1991, Mr. Wang started the Seattle Chinese Biomedical Association, and established BGI Biotechnology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. when he returned to China in 1994. Since the initiation of the Human Genome Project, Mr. Wang has proactively facilitated the participation of China in this historic research. In 1999, he founded BGI with the other three scientists in order to complete the research task of the Human Genome Project appointed to China. From 2003 to 2007, he served as deputy director of the Institute of Genomics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2007, Mr. Wang and his team relocated the headquarter of BGI in Shenzhen and continued to promote the development of the related college, research institutes and industry.

Wang Shi

Wang Shi, founder of Vanke Group, is the Honorary Chairman of the Board of Vanke Group and co-chairman of BGI Group, Chairman of Vanke Foundation, Executive Chairman of Mammoth Foundation. Meanwhile, he serves as an independent director of a number of companies (such as Sohu, Hyundai Communications, etc.). Chairman of the Shenzhen Social Organizations Association, Distinguished Professor of the National Development Institute of Peking University, Director of the New York University Global Council, Director of the Real Estate Institute of the National University of Singapore, Distinguished Professor of Business School, Board Member of the Cornell University Council, Lifetime Honorary President of the Asian Rowing Federation. Wang Shi graduated from Lanzhou Railway College with a bachelor's degree.

Xu Xun

Xu Xun's first major contribution was about the research and development of the "second-generation" sequencer. Xu and his team have successfully developed a series of high-throughput and desktop sequencers, which broke the long-term import dependence of sequencers. At the same time, Xu and his team have also been devoted to pushing forward the clinical application of sequencing technologies. Xu also has led a team to do research on agrigenomics, and published a great amount of high-quality research results. Xu also took the lead in the 10,000 Plant Genomes Project (10KP), aiming at completing the genome sequencing for 10,000 kinds of plants in 10 years, and participated in the African Orphan Crops Projects to realize precision breeding with the assistance of genome technology. Dr. Xu has authored or co-authored 209 scientific papers published in SCI indexed journals including Nature, Science, and Cell. He has participated in a number of major national and international scientific research projects as leader or researcher, including National 863 Sequencing Instrument Development Project and Industrial Clustering Project of China's National Development and Reform Commission.

Yang Huanming

Yang Huanming, Co-founder and Member of the Board of Directors of BGI Group and Director-General of BGI, co-founded BGI with the other three scientists. Dr. Yang is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Developing Countries (TWAS), and a member of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Meanwhile, Dr. Yang is also a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, the German National Academy of Sciences, the Indian Academy of Sciences, the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences, and the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). Dr. Yang obtained his PhD from the University of Copenhagen, and then did postdoctoral research in France and the United States. Dr. Yang is also a professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Dr. Yang and his teams have made great contributions to various genome research projects, such as the Human Genome Project, the Human Haplogram Project, the Thousand Human Genome Project, the International Cancer Genomics Project, the Chinese Genome Map project, the human pan-genome map, the ancient human genome map, intestinal Meta genome, etc.
