Adeel S. Akhtar is a partner in our San Francisco office. He has extensive experience in patent protection, and other forms of intellectual property protection, for high technology industries.
Adeel's practice includes strategic patent procurement, general counseling on infringement and licensing issues, pre-litigation studies, intellectual property due diligence studies and related negotiations for mergers and acquisitions. He also frequently conducts in-house seminars to assist clients in identifying and prioritizing patentable inventions.
Adeel focuses on complex technologies, including software, data processing, and electronic devices such as sensors, imagers, displays, MEMS and integrated circuits. He has particular expertise in the semiconductor field, including:
Integrated circuit fabrication flows
Semiconductor device physics
Circuit layout
Scaling techniques
Chip packaging
Semiconductor processing equipment (ancillary systems, such as sensory systems, wafer handling systems, and metrology)
Basic processes developed for the equipment, such as deposition processes (including spin-on deposition, CVD, PVD and ALD), etching, annealing, oxidation, and photolithography
Alistair McIntyre focuses on patent prosecution and litigation pertaining to the biotech industry.
Alistair received his J.D. from UC Berkeley Law, where he was a member of and contributor to the Berkeley Technology Law Journal and involved with the Samuelson Law, Technology & Public Policy Clinic. Prior, Alistair received a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minnesota and a Master's degree in Bioengineering from UC San Diego.

Andrew N. Merickel, Ph.D. is the Managing Partner of our San Francisco office. He focuses on helping clients build and leverage their patent portfolio and navigate the patent landscape in their technology area. Working primarily in patent prosecution, licensing, due diligence, freedom to operate, opinions and challenges to third party patents, he has clients in a wide variety of technology areas, including biotechnology, integrated circuit fabrication, thin film deposition, agriculture and food technology.
Dr. Merickel joined the firm in 2000 and became a partner in 2005.

Ari Feinstein is a litigation associate in the firm's Washington, D.C., office. Ari's practice focuses on patent litigation, trademark litigation, and trademark oppositions. Ari also has experience with data privacy and data security compliance and procedure and is CIPP/US-certified.
Ari has experience working on intellectual property adversarial matters in a wide variety of industries, including consumer electronics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, food and beverage, fitness and nutrition, semiconductors, HVAC, and hydrometallurgy.
During law school, Ari was an executive editor and later the Managing Editor of the Journal of Law and Technology. He also participated in the school's Patent & Licensing Clinic. Ari received his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University.
Ari worked as a summer associate at the firm in 2016 and joined the firm in 2017.

Ashley Morales is an associate in our San Diego office. Her practice primarily focuses on patent litigation. She represents clients in a variety of technological areas and products, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and aesthetic and personal care products. Ashley also has experience litigating Hatch-Waxman, trademark, and breach of contract cases.
Ashley received her law degree from Columbia Law School, where she was Executive Editor for the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law. She received her bachelor's degree in chemistry and political science from the University of Southern California.
Ashley joined the firm in 2015.

Mr. Anger has a broad intellectual property litigation practice, having handled cases involving utility patents, design patents, trademarks, trade dress, copyrights, unfair competition, and breach of contract throughout California and nationwide. Mr. Anger is very active in Knobbe Martens' Inter Partes Review practice. He has led team efforts in Inter Partes Review in the life sciences, chemistry, and medical devices industries.
He has worked on a diverse range of matters involving medical devices, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, consumer products, and sports equipment.
Mr. Anger has handled matters for a diverse array of clients, including Becton Dickinson, Smith & Nephew, Edwards Life Sciences, Lupin Pharmaceuticals, and Malibu Boats. Mr. Anger's clients range from small, fast-growth companies to international corporations with billions of dollars of market share and extensive IP portfolios.
Mr. Anger is a registered patent attorney. Though his practice now focuses on dispute resolution, he has extensive experience in patent prosecution, having obtained numerous patents for clients in various technology areas. He also has extensive experience in conducting and defending IP due diligence.
