Charles Thill

As an Attorney, Charles focuses on matters related to science, technology and intellectual property. Charles has substantial experience within the technology and software industries, including work regarding drafting and advising on software agreements, compliance, and intellectual property protection matters. Charles also consults and advises technology clients on risks related to information security and privacy. He has performed risk assessments and drafted security and privacy policies for firms ranging in size from small technology startups to fortune 100 companies. He also has experience reviewing and advising on Business Software Alliance audit requests. Charles' privacy and security certifications include: Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and CompTIA Security+. He is a member of a number of professional associations, including but not limited to, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), American Society for Industrial Security, Association for Computing Machinery, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), Cloud Security Alliance, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, International Association of Privacy Professionals, Information Systems Audit and Control Association, International Technology Law Association, and the American Bar Association. Charles earned his J.D. at the University at Buffalo School of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Intellectual Property Law Journal; L.L.M., Intellectual Property Law and Policy, from the University of Washington School of Law; M.A., Informatics, at the University at Buffalo School of Informatics; Advanced Graduate Certificate in Information Assurance and Security, through the NSA Infrastructure and Protection Program; and a B.S., Biochemistry, from Stony Brook University. He is licensed to practice in the State of Washington (bar admission under Charlie D. Thill).
