Caroline Brock

Caroline is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine having graduated from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Over the last few years she has taken a keen interest in medical education and is an examiner for the medical clinical examinations at Leeds University, regularly teaches undergraduates and junior doctors on their mandatory life support courses and examination skills, and is a qualified ultrasound scan trainer for the Yorkshire Deanery doctors and medical students. In the last year she has also taken on a new role of updating and delivering the new induction programme for junior doctors. Her passion for teaching in her job comes from enabling her trainees to develop and succeed to the best of their ability by motivating them and giving them the tools to manage their own learning and direction. To further her experience she is undertaking a post graduate certificate in medical education. She has also taught outside of her medical career in piano and dancing for many years, and therefore is able to adjust her teaching style to any audience, of any age or ability, and keep it dynamic and interesting. She has consistently received positive feedback from students and participants on her supportive and flexible approach. When she is not at work, Caroline has a firm grounding in sport and competes in distance running events and triathlons with her team GB coach.

Damien Cullington

Damien is a final year trainee in cardiology specialising in adult congenital heart disease and advanced heart failure. He qualified at the University of Liverpool in 2002 and is currently training at Leeds General Infirmary. From early on in his own training, Damien has taken a keen interest in training medical undergraduates and junior doctors. Damien is a newly appointed RCP mentor, currently teaches student doctors for the University of Leeds and is a faculty member of the Royal College of Physicians Scenario Development Committee for the PACES examination. He has previously been an examiner for mock PACES courses in East Yorkshire and he was a clinical tutor for Hull York Medical School. Damien was awarded his MD thesis in 2013 and, during his formative years in research has presented and published his findings nationally and internationally. Intra-departmentally he set up and runs the adult congenital and paediatric cardiology journal club. Internationally he has a development role for the International Society of Adult Congenital Heart Disease and has been enrolled on the working group for grown up congenital disease in the European Society of Cardiology. Damien has a friendly and engaging teaching style which encourages candidates to be at ease, allowing an open flow of ideas to be explored.

Dave Bates

Dave has extensive commercial experience gained working with the NHS and pharmaceutical industry. He has also worked with the automotive, drinks, IT and telecommunications industries throughout the UK, Europe, North America, Middle East, Far East and Africa. He has worked on several Key Opinion Leader projects and delivered Leadership and Management programmes, Influencing, Chairmanship, Team and Personal Effectiveness and other communication related skills workshops. Dave has a great ability to combine theory with real practical application. His style is engaging and enjoyable, yet challenging. With a high level of self-awareness and awareness of others, Dave is able to tailor his style and format according to the needs of the audience. With his calm, yet enthused approach to raining and coaching, participants quickly feel at ease and relaxed. Dave has a Masters in Leadership (Exeter), an MBA (Reading) and a BSc (Newcastle upon Tyne). Kevin Hayes

Kevin is the Clinical Lead for acute gynaecology, early pregnancy and gynaecological ultrasound at St George's University Hospital in a world renowned acute gynaecological unit with responsibility for over 20,000 patients per year. He is also the overall Head of Assessment at St George's University London with responsibility for design, running and quality assurance of all assessment in the medical school and allied sciences. He is the national Chair of the RCOG assessment committee and has helped to oversee the redesign, delivery and roll out of workplace based assessments for the whole of UK training in obstetrics and gynaecology as well the introduction of a new Part 3 MRCOG assessment. Kevin delivers training nationally in education and assessment for 8 clinical and non-clinical post-graduate diplomas and regularly provides talks and runs workshops at College Tutor meetings and Training the Trainers courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. He has international external roles in the West Indies, Cyprus and the USA and has also represented St George's and the RCOG in Dubai, Tanzania, Republic of Ireland and Brunei. Kevin regularly publishes in relation to training, teaching and assessment and is regularly invited to speak nationally and internationally in these areas.

Paul Carter

Paul has been a Consultant in Liverpool for the last 16 years and has gained over 30 years experience of teaching and training junior medical staff and undergraduates. He has taught on the Royal College of Surgeons Training the Trainers course for 15 years. Paul has held a number of managerial roles within the Trust including Lead for Risk management (7 years), Chairman of the Medical Board (2 years), Clinical Director (5 years) and Associate Medical Director for Patient Safety (present appointment). He has extensive experience of appraisal (8 years for Consultants) and assessment (16 years for trainees). Paul led on the Hospital at Night pilot and is an experienced peer reviewer, having undertaking peer review in Northern Ireland for their Hospital at Night development and nationally in the UK for cancer peer review.

Tom Phillips - Managing Director

Tom is an award winning trainer, mentor and coach who also has publications in his name. Between 1990 and 2008 Tom worked alongside the NHS whilst enjoying a remarkable career in the pharmaceutical industry during which time he held senior roles in sales, marketing and training. In 2008 Tom set up his first company, TLP Ltd, which has gone from strength to strength ever since. Originally aimed at working with the pharma industry, TLP started to do more and more work with the NHS to the point where TLP has literally trained 1000s of doctors, pharmacists, nurses, managers and other healthcare professionals in the last several years. As well as working with HCPs in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, Tom regularly works with HCPs from other healthcare systems in Europe and occasionally America, Central America and the Far East.
