Daniel E. King

Job Titles:
  • Graduate Student
Daniel's unique upbringing in Laredo, Texas has inspired him to pursue higher education and to encourage under-represented students to do the same. Growing up in a predominantly Spanish-speaking town on the Mexican border, he experienced a distinct multicultural environment that shaped all aspects of his life and gave him a unique identity and perspective. As a child, he frequently crossed the border between the US and Mexico and witnessed the blending of two cultures that was both beautiful and complex. This upbringing instilled in him the belief that people can be proud of their heritage while also embracing new opportunities. Daniel graduated from Texas A&M University (TAMU) in 2021 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. While at TAMU, Daniel's research focused on improving catalyst efficiency through microconvection, and scaling up processes. Daniel went on to pursue a doctoral degree in chemical engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. Under the supervision of Dr. Manish Kumar and Dr. Benny Freeman, Daniel's research focuses on Reverse Osmosis fouling and scaling up.

Daniela Rivera Mirabal

Job Titles:
  • Graduate Student
Daniela Rivera Mirabal is a graduate student at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellow. Her research "leverages sequence-defined polypeptoids and advanced computational methods to explore how monomer sequences can impact polymer assembly."

Dave Bollinger - COO

Job Titles:
  • Environmental Engineer
  • Operations Director
Dave is an environmental engineer and materials scientist with a background that spans water/wastewater treatment to nuclear waste disposal. He comes to us from Washington State University, where he was responsible for coordinating and advancing a number of faculty development and research initiatives at the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. Prior to that, he conducted his doctoral research on the waste valorization of aluminosilicate wastes from primary materials production, and the use of similar sodalite and cancrinite materials for radioisotope immobilization and disposal. Before embarking on the study of mineral waste forms, Dave worked in R&D as a process engineer on a number of wastewater treatment technologies at Duke University and RTI International. Some of these projects included forward osmosis / membrane distillation systems for oil & gas produced waters, anaerobic membrane bioreactors for biofuels wastes, scaling-resistant conductive membranes for brines, and supercritical water oxidation for the elimination of municipal sewage sludge. He is excited to be a part of the M-WET team, helping our scientists advance the study of membranes for the benefit of both water and energy systems.
