Steve is an owner of Shilling Construction Company, Inc., a family held asphalt paving contractor and manufacturer based in Manhattan, Kansas. He serves as the Chief Financial Officer which supervises all the accounting and finance, information technology, human resources, and other back-office functions of the company. Along with the other owners, Steve is heavily involved in the strategic vision and operations of the family business. Overall, he has 20 years of accounting and finance experience in the construction industry, which includes eight years at Shilling Construction Company and 12 years serving the industry as a CPA in Kansas City. Steve is a graduate from Kansas State University, holding a Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Criminology, and a Master of Accountancy. During his tenure at Kansas State, Steve played football for head coach Bill Snyder as a defensive end.
Steve currently serves on the Leadership Manhattan board and is the immediate past-chair. Steve is a 2018 graduate of Leadership Manhattan. He is also a 2014 graduate of the Kansas City Chamber's Centurions Leadership program. Over the years, Steve has served as a board member and/or volunteered with various non-profit organizations ranging from arts to sports.
Steve is a member of the Construction Financial Management Association holding the distinguished Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) designation. Steve has an inactive CPA license.
