Our organisational whakapapa traces back through The Office for Māori Crown Relations: Te Arawhiti (2019-2025), the Office of Treaty Settlements (1995-2019) and to the Treaty of Waitangi Policy Unit formed in 1989. We are a departmental agency hosted by the Ministry of Justice... Te Tari Whakatau supports the Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Minister and works with whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori and across the public service to complete Treaty settlements and Takutai Moana determinations. We also provide strategic advice on Māori rights and interests that relate to Treaty settlements and Takutai Moana determinations... Our values guide us. They are woven into our DNA, shape our behaviour, and underpin everything we do at Te Tari Whakatau. They help us connect to each other and to develop a sense of empowerment and belonging across our organisation.
