THE CUBA PRESS

The Cuba Press is a publisher of fiction, memoirs, biographies, creative non-fiction, poetry, children's books and literary anthologies in Aotearoa New Zealand. It was founded in Wellington's vibrant Cuba Quarter in 2018, a place of cafes, restaurants, music venues, theatres and publishers... The Cuba Press is a hybrid publisher, which means we have a number of ways of funding our books outside of the traditional publishing model... With a population of just over five million, New Zealand has a relatively small reading public and economies of scale mean it is difficult for a traditional publisher to make money on local books without funding support from the government arts body Creative New Zealand.
